Fantastic launch defiantely.

Why make hundreds of thousands of people anticipate something only for it to not work.

The Sky Player itself is stupidly slow at the moment as is the website.

From what I have gathered so far its just another AnyTime box. Will be sticking with my Virgin dodgy box for now me thinks.

I'll be sticking with freeview unless they can offer more than 24 channels. And actually make it HD.

Don't think you get Sky Sports for 15 quid. I understand it's 15 quid for the entertainment pack and the price will increase if you add Sky Sports or Movies to that.

Here are two good articles.

Xbox Sky Player pulled on "technical issue" // News

"Content will only be available in standard definition in order to ensure that the streaming service is as seamless as possible to the highest number of users, and will be available in three different quality levels - with a maximum line speed requirement of around 2mbps."

And that's why I'm not getting it. The picture quality will be much worse than through a set top box or Sky. Oh well.

Is Sky working again?
They said they were aiming to fix it 'by Wednesday' (an article from yesterday) so is that today (or later today), or in seven days' time?

Hopefully they mean today.
I just don't see how they're going to make the picture quality any good. Streaming SD pictures through a HD TV always looks awful unless it's through a Digital Box like Sky or Freeview. I'm willing to be proven wrong, but after looking forward to this feature it seems so pointless now.

I was expecting it to be HD. Or at least good value. £15 for 24 channels, most of which are either on freeview or ones I won't watch. No thanks.

How could it be HD? Even normal Sky isn't HD

2mbps could potentially give great SD pictures, better than freeview, if they used an efficient codec like H.264. Freeview already has terrible picture quality especially off the main 5 channels due to excessive compression, Sky not so much but 2mbps could be enough to match it at least.

I agree with you that it's bad value for money though.

BBC should work with MS to add iplayer like they have on PS3 and Wii.

iplayer would be really good.

i think 24 channels suck, if you dont have Sky movies and Sky sports whats the point in getting it.

Little disappointed, but im sure they may add more channels

£15 for that garbage bag of channels

I've already got Sky, but if I didn't, there's no way I'd pay £15 for that. You don't even get Sky 1 lol

Thats dire. I have a free view box in my room. Looking at the channel list its basically a short list of semi popular channels not available on free view, and the limited movies channels means you're better off paying for a HD streaming vid off xbl or justs watching else where. As for the sports channels, go down the pub.

And looking deeper, who do MicroSoft think their customers are? I get the kiddie channels, parents with children have an xbox, but sky arts?

At the moment, my SkyPlayer has Eurosport, Sky Sports 1, 2, 3 Xtra & News. Sky News, all the Movie channels, ESPN, Rush, G.O.L.D, Nick Jr., Disney Channel, Nickelodeon, Boomerang, Cartoon Network, Eden, History, Nat Geo Wild, Nat Geo, Sky News (which I'm watching right now live and the picture is perfect), ESPN Classic, MTV, Sky Screen 2, Sky Screen 1, Sky Arts 1, Sky Real Lives.

Now I'd say that's pretty good.
