Default Server choices

Aside from all the doom going on right now about the keys im sure it will all get sorted in time, so with that in mind how does the server choice work? i assume Core is just regular PvE and RvR is just the pvp version, im not sure what to go for as id like to be on a pvp server where the threat of random death is there, i assume the RvR is that choice? how does the PvP work on the Core servers?

Yes i could probably find all this out on the site i just thought some other conversation on this forum might be a pleasant change.

Ill explain it using the Highelf/Darkelf pairing

Core server is where as a Dark Elf questing in a Dark Elf area you do not get RvR (PvP) tagged so should a High Elf come a long he cannot attack you unless you tag yourself. However each Tier (Zone(s)) has an RvR Area whereby by entering this zone you get RvR tagged and is an open PvP area.

As you progress to later tiers the size of the RvR area gets larger and has more objectives on it.

Open server is where as a Dark Elf questing in a Dark Elf area you will ALWAYS be RvR tagged so if any High Elf character comes to your area he can and probably will attack you. To help prevent grieving (ganking - high levels coming to low level areas and killing lowbies) you cannot got to any tier more than one below you or you get turned into a chicken with 1 health point. So if your leveling in Tier 3 at the appropriate level you cannot go back to Tier 1 without being turned into a chicken with one hp, however you can go to Tier 2.

For those of you who played WoW it can be described like this. Core servers are like PvP servers in WoW. Horde (destruction) territories, Alliance (order) territories and Contested (RvR) Territories.

Open servers are like it says in the slogan 'War is everywhere'

Hope this clears it up - There is no PvE server, this game is built around RvR.

I personally will be going for a Core server because I like the PvP and will certainly do my fair share of it but there are times where you just want to get your head down and quest, on a core server this can be done without the chance of an opponent camping the area you need to be in.

I wouldnt go as far to say that... its PvP servers with 'safe zones' I guess.

If I recall by T4 like 75% of the zone is RvR/PvP based so even on Core servers its hard (but not impossible) to avoid.

Thanks a bunch for clearing that up. I was confused.
