Music has no borders, though.
Have to agree to a certain extent, that being the mainstream factor.

Otherwise I see myself liking music from every corner of the globe, it doesn't gravitate on one nation or continent.

I like to think Americans have always had better music than the British some people just don't like stacking up The Beatles, The Who, The Rolling Stones etc. with Elvis, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Bob Dylan, etc.

the 90's was dominated by british bands

The Stone Roses
The Verve
Radiohead
Oasis
Blur

Supergrass

UK wins by a slight in the 20's

Muse
FF
Kasabian
AM
Coldplay
Keane

Not in America.

The 90s were all about Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Rage Against the Machine, The Black Crowes, Smashing Pumpkins, etc.

Alice in Chains RATM and SP are the only worthy ones when compared to the likes of Stone Roses (potentially the best band ever) Radiohead and Oasis

The British bands from the 60's were okay, but for some odd reason pretty much all "newer" British bands sound the same to me.(well the ones I heard of, anyhow)

and all new and recent bands sound the same to me nowadays.

I think I'll stick to listening to Tito & Tarantula, Los Lobos, RATM, Rancid, Sublime and The Misfits.

I'm going to say America.

Although a big mention to Germany, because of Tokio Hotel. :P

A lot of good music comes from all over the place, Alphabeat are German or Swedish, I forget. And we Brits seem to have the most girl and boy groups (correct me if I'm wrong) because we have Girls Aloud, Sugababes, The Saturdays, Take That, Westlife, among others, whereas I can't actually think of any American girl group at the moment.
