it was only a matter of time before this degenerated into an argument maybe people should just be happy that we have these consoles available to us, as much as i said i am a sony boy and i love my ps3 as i think it is a fantastic machine i would happily own an xbox 360 if i had the chance. my mates have xbox 360's so i get to play on the machine when i go to see them, maybe that would be a better way of looking at it?

I can't quite understand how having the box slightly raised would scratch the disk less. Where are you getting all these ludicrous facts from?

i'll agree with you on that one. I wouldn't mind playing on a 360 if i had the chance. it's not like Xbox stripped me off my life savings, forced me to live in a C grade motel and eat from the trash can. there's no personal grudge here. anything is okay, but since I do have a ps3, i'd say PS3 ftw. otherwise, let's not get too caught up in the argument. PS3 does have more features, but takes more cash from your pocket. 360 is from microsoft, the brains behind softwares and technology. It's a close one, but at the end of the day, if you're looking for features it's PS3, if you're looking for which one is economical it's 360. 50/50, depends on which side of the argument you're debating for.

I own both and I like them both for different reasons, but I prefer the PlayStation 3.

Now that the majority of developers are familiar with both consoles, the graphics are equally 'awesome' (in most cases), so that's not an issue, in my opinion.

The PlayStation 3 comes with everything you need (HDMI port, Hard Drive, BluRay Player, etc.), and is as it is.
The Xbox 360 has a seperate 'power pack', which is cumbersome, and it doesn't have BluRay (or HDDVD*) or an HDMI port* or a Hard Drive.*
*depending on the model and/or additional hard-ware.

I prefer the PlayStation 3 controllers; particularly because they don't require AA batteries (), because of the symmetry of the analogue sticks and the fact that the d-pad isn't 'one button' (which can be a pain at times). I also prefer the shoulder buttons.

Online gaming is free, on the PlayStation 3! Sure, Xbox Live is slightly better (connectivity is better, in general, and inviting friends and talking to friends is much better and easier (and you get a headset with your console )), but the PlayStation Network is sufficient and it will only get better with future updates.

Not really a big difference between these 2 consoles, but I'd still go with PS3. Why....Because from my understanding it's more powerful than the 360. 360 has some awesome games no doubt, but you can't keep a 360 for a long time like the PS3. Online functionality for the PS3 is good because it's free and it's really good on connection sometimes, but 360 has a stronger online system and a faster one (connection vise again), but since the PS3 online is free it makes the PS3 better. PS3 online will be very similar to the 360's in the future with updates and the 2.40 update is outstanding. In short, my vote is for the PS3.

I though I replied to this but I musn't have.

If you stand it on horizontally the discs run smoother. Like when I played Final Fantasy X-2 on PS2, when I stood it vertically, sometimes in cutscene's there would be no audio at all. When I stood it horizontally, it did.

The cradboard box acts like a ventilation system. I can't be boshed to draw a diagram.

That doesn't answer my question

I want to know why standing it on a cardboard box stops the disk from scratching.

Ventilation has nothing to do with disk scratching

Microsoft just wouldn't be Microsoft without their love of multiple flavours of products.

Office, Vista, Xbox 360 ... it's annoying yet rather amusing.

I prefer the PS3 now. But I'll be getting a blueray XBOX if one actually comes out.

There wouldn't be- Blu-Ray is Sony Technology. Why did you think that MS supported Toshiba's HD-DVD instead, and then made it compatible with the X360, via a fairly expensive HD-DVD Player?

Really? Never heard of that before. My PS2 controller's buttons are rounded so I wouldn't notice.

I know. But you need to stand it horizontally, if you stand it vertically makes your "ventilation system" collapse. Standing it horizontally also* scratches the discs less.

* Also indicates I'm adding something from a different topic. And it's a pretty good connective too

Allways have it vertically. The "ventilation system" hasn't collapsed yet.

Mine is horizontal and it has never been too hot. It's too dangerous to leave it vertically in my house - we have creatures running about. It's all about preference.

It comes down to personal preference which one you may interpret as 'the best’.
Based purely on gaming the only difference that separates them is the exclusive titles (such as MGS4 and Halo3) and the subscription charge for the online multiplayer on the xbox360 which can also be subject to personal preference to which is best.
Based on this if you want a very good gaming experience on single player, multiplayer or both there is little to argue either way.

What it then comes down to is added functionality of the consoles, such as if you are an avid film watcher and would like to watch and own your own copy of HD blu-ray movies then the ps3 may be considered to be a good choice, whereas if you would like to rent a HD movie then the upcoming film store on the xbox360 would be a better proposition, until ps3 adds that content.
Both consoles now contain HDMI connections on all models and will upscale DVD movies to HD when used so there is no difference there.
Other functionality difference is the web browser on the ps3 which doesn’t feature on the xbox360 and the user upgradeable HDD that if you were going to fill and therefore want to upgrade your hard drive then the ps3 may then save you money in the longer term.

There is a price difference between the two and this will be the deciding factor in many cases but as the saying goes ‘you get what you pay for’ and even though the ps3 is more expensive, if you are going to use the extra functionality then it can be viewed as a ‘good investment’.

Therefore which you interpret as ‘the best’ is objective and will vary depending what you would like to use the console for.
