Default Why don't cows have equal rights?

I cannot believe people do this, yeah yeah we are the dominate species on earth and all that by do we really have the right to do these cruel things to Cows and chickins? I can't tell you the horrific things that are done to those animals. Michael Vick, an American football qauter back, was thrown in Jail for taking part in dog fighting activites. The things that other people do to cows are worse then what he did, but they are not thrown in jail, they have nothing against them.

But if an animal harms us we call the police and they harm it back, people always say to not take part in fights with other people, so why are we allowed to do it to animals?

What's your opinion on this? Should cows have equal rights?

Must we take part in the food chain in the cruel ways we are?

Cows have equal rights in India, maybe they should in other places, too.

You don't know the torture they go through before they are killed.

Actually, I had friends who worked on a Chicken farm. So, I am very aware of what these animals go through and I have friends who grew up on farms. Never did I think what they were doing was unhuman or wrong.

Still it's not enough for me to stop eatting them. It's the way the world works bud. I am a animal lover and so is my stomach.

So you don't eat Chicken of beef Leomessi???

The point of this thread is to talk about the cruel tortures they go through.

Other animals/predators do the same thing too, we're just one of them. At least we kill the cows chicken..etc before eating them while other predators just eat their prey while they're still alive.

I mean yeah sure killing is painful (to the cow at least), but I'm not so sure how else you want us to "take part in the food chain" without this (ie how to be less cruel)

Agreed with smartypants.

Plus Cows are so stupid, if we didn't farm them they'd roam non-existant fields and streets being pointless

We tend to cull them in the most painless way possible, that's life I'm afraid. We, as humans, I feel are becoming too sensitive for our own good old fashioned natural animalistic tendencies.

i.e. Mating and killing bears

They get stunned and they dont know whats hit them because they just go all stiff and more or less dead then we cut them open, watch the blood gush out and then start ripping it apart once its bloods drained out of it.
Simple way of life.
We've done it since the beginning of man, why stop now!
I do love my Chips, Peas and Steak!

Not all of them. There are humane farms you know.

Not all farms take part in battery farming. And besides, you need meat for a balanced diet, and there isn't really a humane way of killing. If we let them die by disease, we'd all die by it too No matter how much we processed the crap out of it. In the end you have to accept we need to kill to survive.

The only exception should be religious rules. I can't harm any animal due to religion, but I still eat meat. I have to. Otherwise I wouldn't have a healthy diet. Eating animal meat isn't harming it. You didn't harm it in anyway, did you?

Above all....we could either have humane farming, which yes, isn't pleasant, but it's the best we got.....or we could have cows roaming the fields and everyone killing for them themselves with blunt razors, axes and machine guns.

"Is that what you want? 'cause that's what'll happen"

I agree with Lauren, In Food Tech yesterday a local farmer with the company called Well Hung and Tender was in. He farms near the railway station and he described how they get slaughtered and hat diseases can they contract. He also described what happens to the rest of the cow.. Not all farms are stereotypical, like the farms which are shown on the media. Not every farm does battery and kills them unhumanely. Ain't there laws on this kinda suffering..

not quite - they're just sacred.

I mean, yeah, love cow, but I wouldn't cry myself to sleep if they were to be wiped off in the name of global warming.
