Default Way too frustrating?

I've been playing Fifa08 (PS3) for several months on semi-pro and got a pretty good winning/scoring average. Bought Uefa2008 for the Xbox360 and boy is this a frustrating game. Been playing the tournament mode for a few days now and I hardly EVER score a goal on semi-pro, let alone win a match.

The attacking and scoring parts might be me not knowing the controls or the game that well enough (shouldn't be that different to Fifa08 right?). But when the opposite team attacks, it's like my defenders are just brainless goons. The walk in the wrong direction, the attackers can bypass my players without a problem and keeping up with them using spring is just not an option (I'm playing with Belgium). Getting a ball from an attacker is nigh on impossible, when I'm attacking I lose my ball 90% of the time with a simple tackle, whatever I do. Trick moves (left trigger+right analog) also seem pretty hard to pull off.

Any hints/tips? I really miss a way to practice in this game or even a tutorial which learns you how to do proper defending, attacking etc...

I'm on semi-pro as well and what I find really bizarre is that I can be Croatia 3-1 with England pretty easily but then lose to Macedonia and not get a sniff of the ball. Yes I know that the lesser sides defend deep to make it hard but there attack seems way over the top to be realistic. Is it me or is France a tad bit over-rated?

It definitely gets easier with practice, I found the key to playing lower teams is to "learn" how to play against them by trying different tactics and eventually it'll stick. Try experimenting with crosses (if you have a tall striker), or passing the ball about in their half looking for a small opening/gap and go for it. Alternatively, try and let them attack you, taking the ball off them and hit them on the counter attack with a decent through ball.

You need to learn how to build attacks.

if a team sits back and defends, then build up your attack from the back...patience is the key

i play on professional and i do pretty good .. with a 4 star team and I can usually tie or beat most teams.
I thought well lets play online now and put these skills to use... *slap*.
I get owned online.. some people have a way of intercepting all my passes and pushing me off the ball. I think my record is 13-29..
So I wonder how ppl on semi-pro do online?

I'll give you just one tip. The through ball. Learn to exploit this and you'll win every game.

Great tip.^^^^^^

Anyway, I would highly recommend using Manual settings for passing and shooting. Then, like a few have said, build your attack, change tactics/formations, have patience, and use through balls and lob passes into space.

how do you push a player off the ball? Online so many players do that to me but no foul is called. Sometimes I have trouble getting the ball out of my half without lobbing it out

This sounds like an exploit. Remember WC06, the lob over the goalie and through pass equalled a goal every time. WHERE is the fun in having no challenge?

Play against people; the computer plays like ******* robots and is deadly boring to play/defend against. If you really want to learn to play against the CPU, set up your team so that the formation and attack settings allow you to knock the ball really quickly across the field and exploit first the flanks and maybe cutting in off the flanks. The cpu is also a bit vulnerable to counter-attacks from fast players and to 1-2 passing (left shoulder + 2xA).

They key is to be patient because the computer just eats the **** out of the clock. Whenever they're pressed by a defender they just turn around and will run across the length of the field to get away. It's horrible, especially if you need/want quick points.

Playing online is much more fun.

UEFA 08 is just Jokes...i mean come onnnnnn!1 bit tooooo realistic perhaps?
players with ball control level of 50 can hold a ball and turn round in circles and you following them like headless chickens and still can't get the ball of them? whilst if you try and do it...heck..they tackle you easilt..its like the game is coded and scripted to know your every move and vice versa....
at first i thought it was because am playing in Pro difficulty, so i stepped down to semi-pro, still the same thing :/

Agreed, online is terrific, the computer are idiots, they have zero intelligence yet somehow always manage to nick a jammy goal (especially the crap sides). It's most frustrating playing captain your country against one of the minnows, because you usually lose because your teammates play like a bunch of useless tw@s.

I have the hardest time defending. Any tips you can offer regarding how to defend better. I lost one game 4-2, i dont think ive ever conceded four in a gamne against the AI....not even on world class in FIFA 08

Playing against weak teams is imposible.I press the button to tackle and my defenders just run the other way.Olso all the balls just magicly go the the computer.Once i tackled a player and the ball just bounced to another.Tackled that one and yet again bounced to another .Tackled again bounced again ,tackle again bounced again. And the player that the ball bounced to now ended one on one with the keeper and what do youn know,he scores a goal.I mean cmon!We all like a challenge but this game is way to hard.I played fifa 07 on legendary and kept winning every match and here winning on semi-pro against the weaker teams is hard and frustrating.

Thats pretty sad guys. Semi-pro is so damn easy.

You can just run all the way to their goal line without them even trying to tackle you and put in a cross.

If I play Semi-pro itl be an average of 8-0 everytime.

The jump to professional is huge. Takes alot more passing plays and grinding out results.

Im only just starting to win, score about 2-3 a game.

I only got the game a last week though.

It is very easy to win in semi pro, period.

I play on legendary and you really need to know how to touch to stand a chance against any teams in this difficulty. I manage to win at least every other game if I choose a good team. Right now I'm playing the qualification round with Bulgaria and it is extremely hard to get a win. I manage to get a lot of ties but I have never gotten 2 consecutive wins.
