Default EURO 2008 DEMO - Constructive Criticism

After playing around 10-12 games of the EURO 2008 demo, here I my thoughts from a fellow FIFA player on the 360 consule.

Likes: I in agree with the majority that they're heading in the right direction concerning gameplay. Hoping it continues to progress towards FIFA 09. Rather than echo everyone's likes I'll choose to display my dislikes instead.

Some constructive critisism is in order since they haven't released the game and could potentially replicate certain qualities or lack there of on FIFA 09'.

Dislikes:

*Cut-Scenes: I'm not a fan of the at all. In fact, I think they're quite annoying and take away from the momentum of the game.

I also don't like the over the top disgust certain players show when being subed. Even if it is " in the game " we could do with out it. I don't want a band of Ashley Coles at my dispense.

Close up camera views on the coaches, while a neat idea, look more like ridiculous looking marionettes than anything a next-gen game should be showing. Additionally, it's raining & I would assume a lalalalalailly given the other coach is wearing a full-fleged trench coat. So why is my coach dressed like it's a summer day?

*Weather effect: While neat, it wasn't anything revolutionary to anything that has been out for years on other sporting games with weather. For a brand new game, I had higher expectations as a result. It also doesn't seem to effect the pace of game which isn't realistic. Of course, this new feature wasn't a major selling point for me either way.

(side note: if in fact the rain in our demo does slow our players down, we may have some issues then on pace. Because in my opinion if the game speed increases any we do have an Arcade game on our hand. Otherwise the weather appears to have no real effect on the pitch which makes it nearly irrelevant.)

*Player Movement: While the pace of the game has noticably picked up and for the better, for whatever reason I feel as if the player models have taken a step back in animation. They run as if they're wearing a girdle and that isn't an exageration. It's nintendo quality to be honest. Big disappointment, personally.

*Power Meters: This may take some getting used to so I'll reserve sincere judgement until I play the full version.

I'm not the biggest fan of it for simple passes. I do understand for; crosses, shots, clears, etc. However, when attempting to deflect a corner with a header you must charge up the meter and chance missing it completely if too strong. Too weak and it falls straight from your head down to your feet. Certainly something that'll take some getting used to I suppose but I'd prefer the FIFA 08' way on this aspect.

*Single Player Mode Camera View: As of right now you're not able to select " Be a Pro " camera for single player mode. I greatly hope that changes from the demo to the full version or I think I'll be passing (with my new meter mode above my head) entirely on this game.

- -

If you've made it this far through my post, I applaud you for taking the time. I do acknowledge it is a **demo** in fact and that things could be better by release date.

However, it's important as consumers to be critical of a product if it isn't to our liking. Whether it's the entire product or certain aspects. I'm just hoping we get the best product available to create by the developers!

Seriously though.

What type of person regards their own opinion so highly, that they feel the need to start a new thread, rather than just contributing to the existing ones?

I know what this forum needs. More threads for demo feedback.

Sounds like the beginning of a thread to me . ..

What type of person regards their own opinion so highly, that they feel the need to start a new thread, rather than just contributing to the existing ones?

The reality is you or I are no more special than any other person on this forum, aside from moderators abilities. Leaving me the freedom to create a thread and you to add to one that you feel is pointless, rendering your reply potentially even more pointless.

Your right, the animation has took a big step back... looks more like PES 2008 the way players run.

the original post seems overly negative to me, "It's nintendo quality to be honest" seriously, the demo is great you may need to play it more, i dont see how the player animations had been taken back a notch, it seems better to me, oh and i believe the weather has an effect on the pitch, which in turn has an effect on the ball.

Great post. Negative or positive, any comments/feedback is appreciated and will do nothing but help the series get better and better

Also, while it's best to have similar discussions in the fewest threads possible, let us (mods) do that job of organizing the forum. No need to say that the author should've posted somewhere else; you can just report the post and we'll deal with it. Because this will only take the thread off-topic, and will make it harder for people to share their opinions about the game.

Thanks again for the feedback. Keep them coming.

this game runs so smooth that when I went back to fifa I couldnt play it. this game is miles better than fifa. there are no w t f moments like fifa even the goalies are slightly better. idk whether to trade fifa for this game. will it be priced for the same price?

Yes, it's really a big improvement. The whole game is a lot more fluid. The player responses improved significantly without becoming an arcade game (which is good ;-) ).

i dont like that these bars are over the players....and this stars.

ich wish that in fifa09 it will be in the corner like in fifa08.

it is terrible to see all time this things over the heads of the players...!!!!!

please give back the menu "mentality". i cant understand why its not in Euro2008?????

the celebration scene where we can say what the player has to do should be longer ( i think 5 sec. more would be perfect!)

the wet matchfield looks unrealistic. this huge lake on the field ^^

better fan crowd please and players on the reserve bank.

sorry 4 my bad english!

how exactly are the keepers better ? the keepers are worst the only good thing they done is make them come out but other than that they parry every shot or drop the ball and do stupid things

its way to easy to score! winning 6-0 in a 2min game isnt right surley and im not even that good at fifa

I think the goalies are a little bit better but they still suck at times. Please EA make the goal keepers better!!

An extremely valid point, I doubt however that the rain in-game will drastically affect the gameplay. Unless EA have stated otherwise.

you need to remember its also on semi-pro, the 2nd easiest mode in the game....i score up to 15 goals sometimes on fifa 08 on this setting, i can just run down the field & score at will most of the time.

as for the demo, PS3 version seems fairly smooth, but the cut scenes are so annoying, its not even funny. i cant stand seeing the coach more than 2 times during the game, i hope theres an option to not have them in the retail version.
