Elevation Query

hi all, just a quick question on elevation and your position to the cup!

I was wondering if you calculate for every inch the cup is either elevated or not you either increase or decrease your putting by one foot, how do you calculate it when you are chipping or pitching from the fairway...

when it's dealing in yards, etc...
