Default BAD_DATA Problem

Since I installed Spore on my new computer, I noticed that when I randomise names on the creators it always comes up with 'BAD_DATA'. Since I got onto the tribal stage, all the people in my tribe are now called 'BAD_DATA' e.g. Chieftain BAD_DATA. This never happened on my old computer, what could be wrong?

Edit: By the way I'm running Windows 7 if that's a problem. Also now I've moved into the Civilization Stage all the cities on the planet are now called 'BAD_DATA'.

Same problem, new install on Windows 7 with the latest patch automatically downloaded via the game interface.

I did notice that not all planets had the name BAD_DATA, there were a couple of mission planets at the very start of the space game where they retained the normal names but I don't know whether that was due to mission generation or just luck.

Will update if I find anything useful anywhere.

Right, I tried what it said to do but for some reason it won't let me edit the target parameter so I can't enter the extension. Not sure if this is something to do with Windows 7 or what?

Okay, in that case I would suggest contacting EA Support for advice using their site pages that I linked to. There is an Email Us link on the left about half way down.

It could be that the guide was written before W7 was released and I don't have it installed on any computers here to try myself I'm afraid.

Hopefully Support can get you sorted out

If that didn't work for you then I can only suggest contacting EA Support for further advice as I am not part of the technical support team and have no experience in that area I'm afraid.

If you explain that you have tried what their site suggests them maybe they can help you trouble shoot further.

ok right click your desktop shortcut, select properties, ensure the shortcut tab is selected, your target should read
"C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\SPORE\Sporebin\SporeApp.exe" -locale:en-us
best way to do this is to copy/paste my line into your shortcut target.
assuming your game was created to its default directory, please come back to us with a result

please note that the planets/creatures that are already labelled BAD_DATA cannot be fixed without starting a new game but the fix i've given you will stop any further planets/creatures from being labelled BAD_DATA
