spore graphics freezes sometimes, but i can still hear game working

please can someone help me with this issue, its really annoying and i have no idea how to fix it. Sometimes it just goes black, and other times i can see my desktop, but the game itself hasnt frozen because i move the mouse and i can hear the noises as it goes over stuff, maybe just a graphics card problem?
