EA Download Manager non-responsive

Just purchased SPORE online from eastore for my kid, downloaded and installed the utter lalalala that is EA Download Manager. When I start it, it appears in my systray. If I right-click "Log in", nothing happens. If I right-click and select "Open", nothing happens. If I right-click and select either "Settings" or "About", the main window plus the expected dialog appears. I can then close the dialog and the main window is non-responsive; it contains no text, the shopping cart is non-responsive, and the window cannot be closed or minimized.

I have filed a support case with EA but I don't expect any response until next week, and I'll probably have to wade through a series of "please see this page on how to update your graphics drivers" lalalalalalalala. Why can I not just get a go*****ed download link and get on with it?? No, because of their lalalalalalala DRM crapware, I can't.

And they wonder why this is the most pirated game ever.
