Wasn't sure wether to post this or not, but i have seen on a few other spore forums (and sim forums) people going crazy over not being able to use the cheat console. Okay, i don't want this forum to start a war over the rights and wrongs of cheating
but the console can help to de-bug and stuff (apparantly) too, so it would be frustrating for some people not to be able to open it. Mainly the problem occurs on laptops although it does on computers too, it may randomly come and go and is really common with HP laptops. So I did a bit of research, because the EA thing simply told me to reinstall (pretty standard answer for 'not sure how to fix this') and found why! ![]() Its down to the short cut and hot keys. shift ctrl and c are used for other things on the computer. If its a laptop (for HP's its the health monitoring) its sees that application as priority, alas no cheat console. However you won't realise as it dosent seem to do the shortcut either if you are in spore or sims... they kinda cancel each other out To determine what it is the shortcut press shift ctrl and c when there is nothing else running. Somthing might happen, and there you have pinpointed your problem. For HP users its usually PC/Laptop health monitoring. If it is a programme, find the programme, either the shortcut on the lap top or in the files in programme files and right click > properties there is usually a short cut key, where the short cut will be ctrl + C or ctrl + c + shift. Just change it to somthing else. If its not that, then its a hotkey, a preprogrammed key for your operating system. To change it, it involves changing the registry keys which you can do, but if you delete somthing or mess around with somthing you shouldnt, it could be your whole computer messed. I found this tutorial;Disable Caps Lock Key in Windows Vista :: the How-To Geek this is for the caps lock, but you can apply it to any hotkey. Although i strongly recommend only people who are confident in doing this sort of thing and know what they are looking at do this, cus like i said one worng move and you could be up a certain creek without a paddle! There are also some programmes, that you can download for FREE (dont pay!) to do this for you, i didnt use one, mainly cus im paranoid over viruses coming in with cetain freeware and stuff ![]() basicaly you just have to pin point and change what ever is hogging that key. If you manage to pinpoint it a quick google on 'changing shortcut/hotkey for -----' should show you how. I know this isnt overly realative to all the problems goin on now but i thought if i could bring a little clarity where EA haven't then it woul;d be a step in the right direction
