Default Graphical glitches on planet surface

I'm getting glitches as seen in this screenshot:
http://soqr.de/dump/spore_glitch.png

I'm running a 4870x2 on x86 XPSP3 with 9.4 Catalyst.

Adjusting the in-game graphics settings seems to have no effect on the glitches.

yeh try a better graphics card, also check that the graphics card is installed properly and all the drivers are up to date

if that doesnt work then try reinstalling spore, you can backup your savegames, theyre found in c\: documents and settings\(your comp file name)\application data\spore\games
back em up in a different file (or a usb if your properly backing them up so if your comp crashes you can still get em) and reinstall spore

hope this helps

Well this card is fairly recent. And I'm not gonna ditch a 400EUR gfx card because someone messed up his code
I am using the latest drivers. And I just installed Spore. It has never been installed on this system.

Is there a place to get tech support that goes beyond "Did you try unplugging it and plugging it in again?"?

In fact, no I haven't. I found an article on there that suggest to disable Catalyst AI to resolve texture issues. Maybe the same will work to fix these vertex data issues as well.
I will give it a try when I'm back home.
Thanks so far

Yes, if you have made and custom settings to the catalyst suite i.e forcing AA for spore then it will produce these problems, its a known issue since the launch of the game, its an issue with ATi drivers.

Alright, so I tried it out.
Disabling Catalyst AI has no effect regarding the issue.
FSAA and Anisotropic filtering are set to "Use application settings".

I found a way to fix this problem and posted the solution on my web page Here.

For the record It happened to me with an ATI 4850 and Catalyst 9.4

I don't have that registry key. And a little more background would be helpful to that solution

Which one, UMD? If you don't have vista 64 then I think it should be directly on "0000", but anyway, search for a Value Named GI_DEF and make sure is located in
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Vi deo\{Something from your card}\
or for XP: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video \{Something from your card}\

Edit: The problem has to do with Geometry Instancing being disabled by the drivers, so we are just enabling it to instruct the card to render things properly. So, you could also use Ati Tray Tools if you don't have Vista 64

I changed GI_DEF to 0 (also tried disabling Geometry Instancing with Tray Tools) but the issue remains.

The issue was resolved for me by enabling Geometry Instancing, not changing GI_DEF.
GI to "31 00"

I've had a strange problem with eco disaster creatures not showing up and just the green trail they leave behind
