Default Spore Autorun And Play Problems

Hey. I'm having a problem getting spore to work. I install the game, but no tick box comes up to make an icon during installation. I went with it because, in my naivity, I thought it would make a shortcut by itself. I even installed the ea downloader. But its like the game hasn't installed properly. Ive tried running the spore.exe app in the spore bin but the screen just goes black then it fails. I've tried opening it through the vista games explorer but i get the same problem. I was told to run spore as a system administrator but that didnt help either. This game was a christmas present and i would really like to get it working. Im on vista but i don't no what type. Im not very good with technical stuff either so please try to keep it simple. I would appreciate the help. Thanks.

Is your PC fully up to date? Does your PC meeting the minimum requirements to play the game?

You can use Windows updates to ensure Windows is up to date. Graphics card drivers can be found on the manufacturers website (the two most common being nVidia and ATI AMD). You can also download the latest DirectX from the Microsoft website.

DivX has nothing to do with Spore think your friend meant DirectX.

Regarding the game shortcut, mine didnt create 1 either so i created my own. goto the Spore bin, right click the SporeApp.exe and click send shortcut to desktop, once you,ve done that close down that folder and try running spore from there. Btw do you have UAC running or not ? i have found that on mine i have had to turn it off, when i click my icon Spore comews up with a black screen, that then closes and reopens properly about 5 seconds later.
If you need help turning UAC off let me know.

To turn UAC off in Vista, goto Control Panel, User Accounts and Family, User Accounts, on the next screebn your see turn User Acount Control on or off, click that then remove the tick from Use User Account Control (UAC) then click ok, you will get a nag balloon from the task bar telling you that your security settings are wrong, you can either ignore them or goto Control Panel, Security, Security Centre, left hand side see, "Change the way Security Centre alerts me" click that then click "Dont Notify Me But Display The Icon"
Having UAC off doesnt compromise your pc's security, its just a Vista thing howether if you feel uncomfortable not having it on then simply turn it off for Spore then turn it back on after.
