Not compatible. He needs an AGP card which IMO aren't worth touching, for the same price as a good new AGP card will cost you, you could probably buy a Nvidia 9600gt new.

2nd Hand hardware isn't worth the risk.

Time to save for a new PC.

My last graphics card just overheated and died due to my fans being clogged up because i smoke too much, so i bought a new one. Let me post some specs. I had this PC built 2 years ago, so apart from the new graphics card i just got you should be able to get everything quite cheaply.

Intel dual core 6600 at 2.4ghz
2gb of ram
ATI radeon HD 4800 (not got a HD monitor, getting one soon though)

Everything set to absolute max, game runs as smooth as a game can run and looks amazing. I thought it couldn't look any better than it did with my old card that just burned out, but i was so very wrong. Everything looks better. Planets, terrain, weather, stars, sky, comets, lazers, explosions, especially when you blow an enemy ship out of the sky, you can see sparks flying everywhere and little bits of the spaceship falling to the ground in a ball of fire, it's great.

If you can scrape the money together, get that card along with similar other components.

It shouldn't be "too" expensive to overhaul your PC. I swapped all of my components from the AGP era to PCI Express for just under 300£ (Or thereabouts in local currency). You'll need to get a new Motherboard, CPU, Graphics Adaptor and some RAM at any rate. Perhaps a new PSU as well. It isn't going to be cheap, but it would be FAR more cost effective over a short span of time than to invest in AGP cards at this point.

@Dayve: I have similar specs and I agree. It really looks beautiful.

I Agree, AGP now is a waste, its effectivly throwing your cash anyway. If you want to do some gaming on a PC these days you should be looking at least:

-Q6600
-9600gt (blech ATi, horrible drivers just look at these boards)
-2gb Memory CL 6400/800mhz would do it
-New PSU and case (Centurion 590 is cheap and has a good 500W psu in)
-New board (Personally i'd go gigabyte ep-35-ds3l good budget board with good build quality, many boards these days are lalalala quality, asus used to be good but now its just cheap unless you go high end)

Looking at 300-400. There are cheaper parts but IMO its not worth sacrificing the quality and risking damaging the rest of the machine. You might even need a new harddrive and dvd drive with everything being SATA these days.

I'm running Spore on NVIDIA 7600gs APG and it runs fine with settings all at high apart from shadows. (apart from the probs that spore has anyway )

I also play Call of Duty 4 and that runs very well at high, it only struggles to play Crysis but then who don't...lol.

£60ish from pcworld ....you dont have to spend alot to keep an old pc going, mines 6 years ( ok i do want a new one..lol )

BTW..mine is only running at 4xAPG not 8x.

That is a lot for such a low end card. That £30 more you could of had a brand new 9600gt or an 8800gt. There is no point beating a dead horse. Specifications are only going to go up, etc you get the point.

PC world is a complete rip off anyway.

But the point is that to have a brand new 9600gt or 8800gt for £30 more i and DanDan would need a whole new pc, that would cost alot more than £90 more like £600 to £1000 !
Like i said i've had my pc for 6+ years and it's playing new games with quite good fps.
So for £60 we can play Spore on high'ish settings and still enjoy it !

Yes pcworld is a complete rip off but it's 5 mins away from me and the 7600gs i got is not much cheaper online !

The computer I outlined and others outlined costs about 300-400, I said as much. 600-1000+ will buy you a top end computer which will floor crysis with AA at high resolution.

You should consider that computer build too. 6+ years it must be stressing the hell out of it I would be surprised If you got another year out of it gaming wise on anything other than low.

Considering new partlalalalalavery 4-6 months?

Yes ! Its my future proofing

Alot of people will only ever want to play Spore and will not need a new pc, just a new gpu.
If i didn't want to play any other new games i wouldnt bother upgrading to a new pc, i would just keep stressing the hell out of this one... i've been stressing it for six years and it's not broken yet !....lol
DanDan, if all you want to do is play Spore and if the rest of your pc is ok and up to Spec buy a new apg card, it will play spore

Normally I would agree. However sims 3 and sim animals are around the corner. Sims 2 already give some people grief being a huge leap over sims 1. Its only going to be more stressing again. IMO it will out rank spore, requirements wise since spore has been in development for however many years vs sims 3.
