Crashing when loading the Civilization Stage

Ok...been having this problem since a couple days after I bought spore and I'm totally confused by it.

Problem: when loading from a save game in the tribal stage (I saved right before I clicked to advance) I always crash when entering the civilization stage.

-I've been to the civilization stage before, infact I have another race in the stage and another in space stage.

-My friend has the exact same computer (laptop) as I do, he hasn't updated drivers (via laptoptogo or another beta driver site, we both have current offical drivers) or anything and his game runs fine.

EA support has been no help at all with their copy paste answers, so I'm wondering if anyone who has more knowledge about the game/computers in general might have an idea whats going on here with my game.

More and more I'm inclined to think it isn't my drivers (because i've been to the stage before and I've run games like crysis on this laptops, so age isn't an issue) Also, not the hardware as a friend of mine can run the game on the same laptop.

But if it isn't that and isn't anything else EA has suggested, what could it be?
