what exactly does this mean?

does it tie my cd-key to my account or is it part of the 3 securom activations

It means you will be unable to connect online with that particular game. It also guarantees that any furture games you, your children, your childen's children and anyone with a 5 mile radius of you now and at anytime will be screwed over by EA.

It does the first. You can only have one account per cd-key. It doesn't have anything to do with the securom activations.

QFT. You can crack the game and not have to suffer any loss of activations as long as you have a legit key you can use sporepedia. That really all that message means, its linking your EA account to your cd key. Every other EA game does it, they just don't give you a message about it.
