It seems the patch did not fix some issues it was supposed to deal with so back to the front with this. Is this thread still useful to people btw ?

Just had a bit of an issue with starting up this weekend, but I managed to get it working again. I suspect its the security update mentioned in the OP.

I had been playing on saturday night, it first crashed after I left that game to go to bed. In the morning it refused to start up, giving the meh, whats it called again... Can't be bothered looking it up again :P The Dll thats missing bug.

Removing the game and all its data (including EADM) did not do anything to fix the problem with a fresh install. Neither did clearing HDD space (only had 10 gigs free, now 35) or defragmenting the drive (which was needed anyway). I ran windows update (running XP btw), got all the high-priority updates and let that install. When that was done I simply reinstalled spore and crossed my fingers.

Lo and behold, it worked. Glad I have a full (and expensive >.<) windows license and can update. Played from cell to space in one quick game last night, nothing odd.

Mind you I have not patched the game yet, still running straight off the disc Spore. I did try patching when I got the game, but the patch wouldn't install after DLing and I couldn't be bothered. Reading other people's comments on the patch made me decide to put patching on hold, so that at least I can keep playing.

Anyways, better go do something "productive"

Hope this info is useful for someone
Peace
TT

Default Problem in creature creator

I had SPORE Creature Creator on my computer and it worked wonderfully. I bought SPORE and installed it, uninstalling the Creature Creator like you are supposed to. Now when I go into the Creature Creator within the actual SPORE game I have a problem. I should be able to resize body parts using the mouse wheel and am unable to. What happened between the Creature Creator and the actual game?

Maybe an old file from the CC setup was left behind and now causes some conflict but yes the mousewheel does/should resize parts.

Supported Video Cards
---------------------

NVIDIA GeForce series
FX 5900, FX 5950
6200, 6500, 6600, 6800,
7200, 7300, 7600, 7800, 7900, 7950
8400, 8500, 8600, 8800
9600, 9800, GTX 260, GTX 280

ATI Radeon(TM) series
9500, 9600, 9800
X300, X600, X700, X800, X850
X1300, X1600, X1800, X1900, X1950
2400, 2600, 2900,
3450, 3650, 3850, 3870,
4850

Intel(R) Extreme Graphics
Windows: GMA 950, GMA 3x00 series
Mac OS X: GMA X3100

Laptop versions of these chipsets may work, but may run
comparatively slower. Standalone cards that are installed in
vanilla PCI slots (not PCIe or PCIx or AGP), such as some
GeForce FX variants, will perform poorly. Intel integrated
chipsets featuring underclocked parts, such as the 945GU, GML,
and GMS, will not perform adequately.

Integrated chipsets such as the ATI Xpress and the NVIDIA
TurboCache variants will have low settings selected, but
should run satisfactorily.

Please note that attempting to play the game using video
hardware that isn’t listed above may result in reduced
performance, graphical issues or cause the game to not
run at all.

The NVIDIA GeForce FX series is unsupported under Vista.

The 9800 is in the supported list so cant say really other than obviously a prob with the game and the newer card. Did you try the newer card on older drivers as well as newest drivers, sometimes going back a revision or two can fix some driver probs, or rather fix probs a game is haveing with that driver revision.

This concerns me. Swapping between nvidia and ati drivers is going to mess something up.

I'd make sure you are doing a proper clean up of drivers inbetween using something like driver sweeper. I'd also try omega drivers if official ati drivers aren't working properly.

As Flatfroggerx says it is very important to make sure you are useing the correct drivers for your devices and also to make sure that when you swap from one device to another you clean out the old drivers for a device properly before installing new items of hardware.

I see people are still asking for fix threads so time to bring it to the front again, I guess I should update this at some point.

omg omg i installed the net frameworks (1.1 and 3.0) for vista and my crash when meeting this new race never happened! :O

so lets see how far the rabbit hole goes without a crash

UPDATE: didnt crash in space age but crashed in a new game when going from cell to creature stage....so waiting for a reply from EA and in the meantime never touching spore till they fix this >
