Cheers for the bump mate I think we should keep bringing this back to the front too, I am going to tidy it up tomorrow and make the first 3 posts Vista, XP and MAC/ATI specific. I will bundle the MAC and ATI together to keep things even and improve the general advice at the start of it.

Ok I have tidied the first 3 posts with all the fixes on, the Vista and XP stuff is all over the place because a lot of people never said if they were on Vista or XP. Also tidied up the start bit with links to drivers, firewalls and windows componants.

i'm having a problem specifically to the space stage, where once in a while the game rapidly begins blinking, then crashes. Is any of the things in that list a fix for that, maybe just worded differently? (p.s. i'm using vista)

Sounds like a graphics bug, have you gone through the GFX fixes ?

Not so much a fix, but for those experiencing the black-flickering-screen-crash problem while on a creator screen, avoid it almost entirely by limiting your use of Control +Z/Y from your keyboard. You can still use the in-game undo/redo controls however.

Of course, if you didn't even know you could use the keyboard for undo, and you still have crashes on the creator screens, then your problem might stem from something else.

I found a good one (sorry if its already there but I didn't spot it):

After much testing.. Deleting the graphics cache file(s) in C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\SPORE before running the game does seem make the game run longer without a crash, overall my crashes have dropped from every 30mins to every 2hrs or more.

This one has helped drop my crashing from every 40 minutes to hours and hours without a crash

I can now verify that the blow fix works for the CTD issue when leaving the homeworld. Problem is the decorative frippery keeps re-appearing. After 5 straight hours of playing, it was overgrown again and I crashed. So you might have to keep clearing it every few hours or so.

"anakinxp1 wrote:

the main issue, check under your City Halls. You might find 15 or so decorative objects underneath.
If so, don't touch it.(it may crash )

Remove few decorative parts to make some empty placement holds, then hit Alt ENTER to redraw the screen.
The objects under the city hall should be replaced(moved) to empty holders. Repeat till no more replacements of objects occur, for all your cities.

I assume this will free some occupied resources, and give you space for drops or spawns, and may saves you from resource overflow.
This means, you should claim dropped resources once in a while to keep safe margins.

Good space ex-spore-ation all!"

Also see the following link and check the incomming progress reports:

Zooming out of homeworld = Crash (kinda)

Still very lttle response from EA on these things. I wish they could give us at least a guesstimate on a patch arrival date to fix these issues.
