Stages won't become Unlocked?

I've run into the strangest problem. At first, I installed Spore on my boyfriend's computer, and everything worked beautifully. I worked my way through the various stages and everything was as it should be. When I started new games on other planets, I could immediately jump to the Space Stage if I wanted to. However, now that I have installed the game on my own computer and have gotten all the way to the Space Stage once again, the other stages are, strangely enough, not unlocked when I attempt to start a new game. I can only choose Cell Stage.

If anyone else has already asked this question, then I apologize. And I apologize as well if I've just missed something blatantly obvious. I just cannot seem to find any solution to this on this forum or by googling it, and it is a bit vexing, to say the least.
