On laptops could it be power management options powering down components it doesn't often use and then needing a few seconds to get them up to speed again.

Try switching of all power management options and see if that helps.

Just a thought.

OK I've done some testing. For those of you having these problem on WXP and ATI Mobility Radeon disabling Catalyst A.I (and power management) seems to help on both patched and unpached version of Spore. On unpatched I've been able to run spore without crasing for long hours. Once I've patched Spore it freezes on evolution steps (e.g. cell->creature, creature-tribe). so remember to save prior to evolving and than after a while on the new EVO step. Once loaded in the "new" EVO step it runs.

hope this helps

I run Vista on my home PC, I've had no problems with any other games, and my Spore freezes just like everybody elses.

My specs are way higher than what's required.

Hp Pavilion DV9000 Laptop, Vista, 2gb ram, 3.2ghz duel core, geforce go 7600.

Spore crashes on starting and minimizes to the task bar. Yet sometimes it will work fine for hours.

have you guys checked with this to see if theres anything wrong in other places ?

Can You RUN It?

i know (even thouhg itll say you need 2.0ghz speed to run it) that 1.88 works becasue thats what my bros laptop has and it runs fine. but its always best to double check

also this fix will only pply to those running Geforce cards

Thank you very much.

Game now working fine

Everyone having freezing problems, try this.

Default Freezing from planet to space after a fight and/or comms

Specs:
Windows Vista Ultimate (x64) Service Pack 1 (build 6001)

Board: MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO.,LTD MS-7376 1.0
Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. V1.5 06/17/2008

RAM: 4096 Megabytes Installed Memory
ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB Series v8.530.0.0
ATI External Event Utility for Windows Version 6.14.10.4201 *
ATI Technologies Inc. - Catalyst Control Centre Version 2.0.0.0 *

Not sure if these help EA Tech's but I notice that usually after you've fought off an attack on your homeworld, if you either go into the comms box and recharge your ship, or trade and purchase new equipment, then try to leave the planet at the point the ship would transition from planet to space mode in orbit the screeen starts to flicker.

I notice that if I CTRL+ALT+DEL and then go back into Spore that the flickering has stopped but I am still in the top most part of the planet mode, I can rotate the ship go into comms mode even launch bombs, but I cannot descend or rise in fact the ship seems permanently stuck. The only recourse is to quite Spore and re-load.

Now this seems to be avoidable if after the battle I leave the planet mode and go into space, then save, then go back and do whatever I need, this seems to be fairly repeatable.

I could screen record this if that would help so you can see an avi clip of this, but that's upto you guys.

I have upgraded my ATI drivers earlier today to Catalyst 8-9_vista64_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_68906 but no luck the game still freezes so this tells me that this appears to be a bug still in the software.

I installed Spore Patch1, which seemed to cause this freezing much more often, but then again I don't know for sure as most of my gameplay before Patch1 was in the civilisation stage.

Hope this helps, and hope you'll be able to bring out a Patch2.

Other than that I like the game a lot, a bit repetitive in some parts, but hope the game will go on from there.

Thanks.

Default I'm sick of this game

When is a game not a game?

Is it...

a) When you can play it for hours and hours?
b) When you get enjoyment playing the game for hours and hours?
c) When the game crashes so consistently that your more concerned about saving the game so often that you cannot trust the game to continue running for more than 10minutes?

EA why aren't you ploughing developers into fixing these bugs, I want to express my anger at your developers to know why they released a game that was so buggy? We never saw issues with game such as Call of Duty or Command and Conquer, surely EA have their eye on the ball and want to help us or are they just going to say screw you, at least then I'd know where I stand and I'll get my money back...

How can I get my money back for this?

The consumer protection act protects us from lalalala like this product is so where's the support coming from EA?

Look at the posts on EA's Forum's apart from FIFA Spore has generated more posting's that any other game...so what is EA doing about this, rather than one big patch to download why can't we just have lots of little patches for each game, at least then I'd know EA are actually bothering to do something about this.

Default Patch2 - My saviour???

Well I was surprised to see a new patch#2 available, I was hoping this was the answer to all my problems...

But upon downloading the patch I get a screen with 3 asterisks in its own box not sure what this is '***' but I have a tick to continue...then I get Patch Failed no reasons why.

I've disabled my Mcafee Firewall for 15mins to see if that would help but nope, the shortcut to Spore on my desktop is set to run as administrator yet still the patch for some reason fails...

I'm not sure if the issue is a corrupt download or my pc is causing this to fail, but what is that '***' screen and if it fails at least give me a reason why so I can fix it, comon EA get your act together Patch1 had no issues to install so why the heck does Patch2 have an issue?

With my confidence in your products already on a thread this current issue doesn't give me much confidence to use this product.

Default Patch2 doesn't fix freezing issue when leaving planets

Well whether another patch allowed me to then run Patch2 I'm not sure but all of a sudden now I could run the patch, but is it a saviour to the masses?

From what I can see having seen the game freeze after attempting to leave a planet is not a saviour at all, I see no improvements in the gameplay and I'm not feeling the love from EA in fact these updates go on and are not replied by EA so what's the point of a forum if EA aren't going to bother replying to the posts of those who care enough to tell you about the problems...

Spore sucks!
