Default useless EA

EA is evil
This game is sold to work on vista but simply doesnt
my lap top specs.
2 gig ddr2
512mb geforce go7600
2 x 1.83 dual core

and 10 gig spare HD

So am well over the min spec's and it continues to freeze
I have played plenty of older games on vista that work fine, so games made before the time when EA simply stopped caring work ( tho have to agree XP seems to be generally better for everything )

Think best solution is to return spore , and wait for Red Alert 3 then i can find they have messed that up too and return that Good Times

Just thought id make a quick list of the menus and pop-ups in game, that ive come across, that makes my game freeze, and only Alt tabbing cures. Im also running on a similar laptop to the people posting here.

Login - The overall, 'Welcome to Spore, Please make an account' pop-up menu, and the 'Login on an existing account' pop-up menu.

Seeing the main Universe Menu - Can see the universe, but no sidebar for options appears, and no planets to start a new game.

Creature selection - Selecting which stage to start at pop-up menu, and the carnivore or herbivore selction menu.

Creature Customization - Have only had this happen once in the Cell Phase, and i think that may be due to the fact that theres no extra menu boxes that appear when you only have 8 items to choose from in the cell phase.
But when i got the creature creator, this happened non stop when i tried to load up a new body part type, or often even just click on another body part, other than the one i already currently had selected.

Thats as far as i got with Spore, sadly.

For some reason the Cell Phase itself works flawlessly, i was swimming around without crashes, or even any kind of issues, even when i changed location through getting up my DNA, but as soon as i had any kind of pop up, before getting there, the game would constantly freeze.

Hope this helps

Call me crazy but all these popup menus crashing would not be triggering popup blockers to kick in would they ?

But this only seems to be happening to people with Laptops. I highly doubt such a thing would only happen to laptop users, and not everyone else.

They're also any type of in-game pop up menu, not internet ones. Its like if you played FIFA 08 and whenever you opened up a player stat menu it crashed.

But if your right and its something very odd like that andyouve saved my Spore misery, ill give you over 9000 internets for doing so.

Right, yesternight I've discovered one particullar occassion where the game always freezes. When I advance from CREATURE to TRIBE and than befriend the first tribe the game freezes within minutes. There is an exception to this if I save the game when already in TRIBE mode it doesn't happen so regularly. Could anyone else confirm this?

I have exactly the same problem!

I just bought Spore and installed it today,
I run it on a Vista laptop with a NVIDIA 7600 fully up to date,
and I first got the 1010 error claiming that I need to download
the latest drivers for my gfx card, but when I go to the NVIDIA
site it turns out that I have the latest version already. Yet I get
the 1010 error from Spore... Weird eh?

Then, when the game does boot up, the screen tends to freeze.
Sometimes it freezes immediately, sometimes only after I click
something. But nevertheless, it freezes constantly.
When the screen freezes, I can press Ctrl+Alt+Del and then click
"abort"/"cancel" so the game screen pops back again unfrozen.
Then I can move the cursor over things and that works, but as soon
as I click anything the screen will freeze again. It does so in every
menu, in the settings menu, in the Creature Creator menus, and in the
main game menus. Doesn't matter what you click or in what menu
you do it, but the thing freezes.

I have not yet been able to play a single minute of this game.
So far this game has cost me a whad of cash, a lot of patience,
and what trust I had left in EA.

PLEASE HELP! I NEED A FIX FOR THIS HUGE BUG!

Since EA is apparently not replying at all, it may be good to have
a second option besides sitting around waiting for them to provide
customer service. So does anyone know if they're giving refunds?

Just a though, alot of ppl in here are saying laptops arnt gaming machines, well my laptop was advertised as a gaming machine !!
My spec are twice as good as my mates specs whos on a desktop, yet he plays it no problem, its not a high demanding graphical game so why the problems, ive got games that demand alot more power than this does with no problems, its Proberly all down to EA not coding it properly for use with laptop graphic cards

Sorry, but they simply arn't. It may be designed to support games more easily, but laptops often have regulated power and heat - which limit the speed and potiential of the components. Whereas a desktop has a better airflow and constant connection to a supply, meaning it can add additional resources where needed.

Additionally, XP is a more stable gaming platform, than VISTA is. Don't forget, both the game and the OS are still in their baby steps.

Advertising like that, is the ignorance of the supplier/seller and the refusal to point out the error by the staff, while speaking with the customer.

Default Spore Screen Freeze Fix for NVIDIA Go cards

So here's the way to fix screen freezing problems in Spore on
laptops with GeForce Go cards;
(and it is the link Flatfroggerx provided so credit the guy please )

1) Go to laptopvideo2go.com
2) Read the info like the quick start guide or the tutorial even if you want
to be 100% sure of what you're going to need to do
3) Download the latest version of the driver AND THE .INF FILE and
make sure the .INF is in the same directory as the unzipped driver.exe
4) Install as normal, or install manually. For instructions, see their tutorial.
5) Reboot
6) Play Spore

Default Spore freeze on Tribal stage

The game works perfectly fine and i'm very pleased with it. Cel stages works wonderful and as does the Creature Stage. However, once you've finished creature stage it tells u u can progress to the Tribal stage. So i click the button on the bottom right and then click the tick on the next screan. I make my final changes to my creature and click the tick button. The games freezes... no matter how long u leave it, nothing works! I did manage (somehow) to get it to start loading the tribal stage, I got to the screan where it says "You may experience..." and just as it's about to show some creatures, the game freezes and just sits there. The mouse has the "busy" icon and u can move it around, but that's not much fun when you've paid £40 for it!!
Exactly the same issues here!! CTRL ALT DEL and back again displays more "what you'll experience" creature images but no more loading happens.

Core 2 6400 2.13Ghz
2GB RAM
Nvidia 7900GTX 512mb
Vista Home premium 64bit

Same problem for me.
Sometimes when rolling over a new item it freezes.
On popup windows like achievements.
Running on NVIDIA GeForce Go 795.

SOLVED
the problem by updating to 176.37 with the modded inf.

Download both here.
Driver details for 176.37 for Windows Vista 32bit | laptopvideo2go.com

I got almost the same problem I got the game yesterday and started playing. Every thing went on well until tribal stage. When I got there and the "how to play guide" told me how to do first I pressed my towncenter then something else and then a helm it allways freezes and I don't got a laptop!!! And my computer fits the game requirements! Ea this whit freezing computers seemse to be a big problem!

Default A Fix

I found a fix for my problem here

nickpettit.com - blog - HowTo: Fix the Spore Creature Creator 'freezing' problem...

It's addressing crashes in the stand alone creature creator but has fixed the fact that mine crashed when exiting the creature creator. I have had no issues with Spore since following these instructions - b warned through that it does involve installing 3rd party graphics drivers (although from a respected source)

also this fix will only pply to those running Geforce cards

Hope this helps
