bump, same problem, tried EA tech twice but they just sent me some generic troubleshooting ideas which apply to all their games (I've had plenty of other EA games work fine, just not this one). Needless to say, I've tried all their suggestions but to no avail.

The least they could do is admit that there's a problem and that they'll address it in a patch; even if it takes a month for the patch. That'd still be ten times better than being strung along by the tech support for weeks on end who can't solve the issue.

Some feel they have found the fix to this issue. I haven't tried it myself yet, but I will when I get home today. Read the following:

"anakinxp1 wrote:

the main issue, check under your City Halls. You might find 15 or so decorative objects underneath.
If so, don't touch it.(it may crash )

Remove few decorative parts to make some empty placement holds, then hit Alt ENTER to redraw the screen.
The objects under the city hall should be replaced(moved) to empty holders. Repeat till no more replacements of objects occur, for all your cities.

I assume this will free some occupied resources, and give you space for drops or spawns, and may saves you from resource overflow.
This means, you should claim dropped resources once in a while to keep safe margins.

Good space ex-spore-ation all!"

Also see the following link and check the incomming progress reports:

Zooming out of homeworld = Crash (kinda)

Hi, when running the game in vista i used to get really bad slow down when on a really hot or a really cold planet, it was ok once i got the heat ray and the ice ray they pretty much turned into "fps ray" as far as i was concerned. Now im running it on xp and i don't get any of those problems. I'm not sure why but i guess it was either something to do with dx10 or just vistas stupid ram hogging ways.

Also i'd just like to say that i have not experience one crash with spore ever. The only slight hitch i had was when i started playing around with the style filters and it did something strange to the graphics cash which stoped the game from launching properly but after deleting the graphics cache files sorted it.
