Default Great now SPORE has corrupted my save file

I was doing so well on the space stage and now it crashes when I try loading it. I have no idea what has caused this in the first place and I have tried making other planets. SPORE has made me so unhappy now.

Aye, the same thing happened to me and lost all that I made. Which means I can't just jump to the space stage again and reuse the same named species setup I had last time.

Also I noticed that the problem with losing your species made is still there. Think Maxis needs to fix that or have a small utility to back it up and restore if needed without risking losing everything.

Good that it happened before I got too involved but then again bad because I already developed a liking for the actual tribe/race etc by then.

same here. was playing for ages without a single problem, thinking how it was too good to be true for something like this to work so well!

now my main save game is corrupted and crashes everytime i load it. all my other saves work perfectly too, even if i fly to my corrupted species in space mode, no problem.

this corrupted save is the one ive been playing, must have put about 20 hours into it, and now im being told that i have to delete it and start again with no guarantee it wont happen with my other saves? really not impressed.

if ea dont fix this i think ill be returning the game.

hey at least you get that closure, mine doesnt even tell me what the problem is it just crashes, and only with that savegame, so naturally instead of thinking theres a problem with the game and trying to fix it, ea are basically just saying 'oh it mustve been a freak accident, youre going to have to start again from scratch and hope it doesnt happen again'

well at least you just have to abandon that planet, i have to abandon the entire game and species that ive worked on the past 5 days, and i have to then take a leap of faith that it wont happen again.

and ea are useless, right now all i can hope for is some clever hacker to come along and make a program like simPE for spore so i can go into the save game myself and sort it out.

I've just experienced the same - but it's not one save, it's all of them. I have about 5 or 6 games going, and now none of them will load. They get past the loading and 'you will encounter...' bit, and just as they display the game screen, it crashes with an app error.

If I create a new game, it plays, but if i save, exit and try and reload, that, too, is corrupt. I'm not reinstalling because I'll lose an activation, but I guess I could delete the save games and start again. Only I've kinda lost my enthusiasm for it now. I achieved my 50 hour award many hours ago and am well on my way to 100. And now its all gone

The only temp fix I can think of for this corrupted save file is every now and again make a backup of the save file so if your game goes west again you will at least have a backup, say 1 save backup from each stage for good measure. How to fix the already corrupted save files I have no idea.
And this is not really a fix as such more a precaution to take.

Same problem here, gets to the "you may encounter..." screen, and then crashes, quits game, and windows xp asks me if i wanna send an error report.
All other saves (or planets, if you like), seem to work fine, and I am able to load into any of them.

Heh, I thought it was my comp when that happened to me, so I rebooted, and it kept on happening. It blows, happened after finally getting my ship battle worthy with all the best equipments, too.

Totally don't feel like playing anymore, at least for the time being.

maxis, get a patch for the game that fixes those bugs! im happy i dont have any glitches(or at least, no really problematic. only boats that move on the ground, and spaceships that drill themselves into the ground, making a lot of mess around.

btw I know some of you will have read about the zoom bug that I was getting but I am at space phase but my creature has changed and the whole empires and game has cocked up So I can sympathise, this is terrible and the worst communication and launch of any game I have been part off.

Yep, me too. Played a whole game normally, messed up my neighbours in the Space Stage and so started afresh. Now whenever I try to load/play the actual game, it crashes. I can still do all the creature creator stuff but... Blegh.

Same problem here. Put in about 18 hours into a game that I can't load because it's corrupt. Restarted 4 times already and end up with the same outcome - crash when loading up Tribal Stage and can't load the saved game, forcing me to start a new game... rinse and repeat.

Safe to say I'm done with Spore until this lalalalalalala is fixed.

I'm agreeing about that : It's not a solution, but it's the better workaround to keep your savegames ok... It's a shame that you you need such trick, but it works... I didn't leave spore for three days, i just alt-tabbed it, and i seem to have no problem. But if i leave the game, i must start from scratch, and... Noooooooooooooooo, i don't want that ^^"

If someone starts a new game, get 3 allies and fight one big empire, hopefully the battle will last a couple of days in which you end up going to multiple planets after this scenario could someone feedback if they ever are still getting the planet zoom bug. I was going to start space again but I am starting University in a few days so I dont think its a good idea for me to be doing that.

If it was the general consensus it was a save bug I would try starting space again and ow btw if you do decide to try what Im suggesting also put down 3 turrets on planets you have captured outwith your home planet. I did read about a similar but unrelated bug where removing the turrets helped but that was for the homeplanet bug which I am not getting just when I zoom into certain planets and its getting worse, it wasnt long after I put those big turrets down that orbited the planets but then the planets I zoomed into that crashed were enemy planets so Im not sure of how much relevance that is?

Default This is a VERY BIG PROBLEM.

Just got the game 2 days ago. Love it the 1st day, a 1 or 2 crashes..no biggy. Went to start my game and it would not load. Came here and was very dissappoint. How can you put a grid game like this on the street with the save file messed up like the way it is. I was telling everyone how this was going to be the game of the year at work. Now I'm going to tell them not to due to a major bug problem. I going to our exchange and let them know of the issue and get the game pulled from the shelf. I will not let the students get ripped off. I see alot of refunds coming. I guess spore going into the nonplayable release box. Seem alot of games coming out are going into it. When they fix it I'll give this game a shot again.

I have the same problem, mine occured when i visited one of my creations planets with my new creature. Now my old creatures save game is corrupted. I think its because each save game tries to interact with the other save games and fail. It will save the state of your newer creatures aempire but wont amend the changes to older save games, so the older save games try and load an out of date universe then fall on their faces.

At least thats the only explanation I can think of wwhy its happening.

Same problem here. I restored the backup save, but now that has become corrupt and won't save. It's pointless restoring it again because I won't be able to make any progress. When I try to save it said "Save Game Failed. Spore will now exit."

ive had a problem with corrupt data as well. at first i couldnt communicate with my homeworld (nothing happened when i clicked on the communicate button) then no legs would appear in creature creator . then i got the 1.5 patch for spore which screwed things up even more (i couldnt play the civilisation stage, i got the blue screen with the communiction panel and ea just replaced the legs problem with another set of rubbish legs.

a day later i got the latest drivers for my ati radeon 3850.before reinstalling the game. I started up the game and played the space stage.i got the communication bug this time and when i played civilisation stage it crashed!
all that were fixed were the legs bug!
i am really angry. EA have ripped £35.00 right out of my pocket for some lousy badly written simulation game.

While i feel for you peeps having probs with Spore i dont think its right to keep blaming EA for all the problems, while its true that 1 of there patchs caused more probs than it solved, the errors your people seem to be getting are nothing to do with any patch, all of them sound more like bad installations rather than bad programming, if a pc has never been cleaned/defragged and generally maintained you can never really hope for a good install, particularly with a game like Spore that is quite a large game and uses a fair amount of ram and processor power.
If you asked every member of these forums how many actual problems they have had directly with Spore itself rather than a pc problem that has been highlighted because of Spore then i bet the number with Spore problems will be quite small, its so easy to blame the game makers rather than 1st looking to yourselves to see if the problem could be resolved by some simple pc maintenance and hardware driver updating. Personally i havent had any problems with Spore at all.
