I have the same problem. Bought the game on Friday for my wife and me to play. I installed it and logged in without any problems, played the game for a while. Then it was my wife's turn to play, so she started the game (yes, on the same PC I'd been using fine), set up an account, but then found the game giving her an error every time she tried to log in.

Hopefully EA will sort it out soon so she can play, too.

This is an absurd problem. My son and I both want to play as well. Personally, I don't mind having our saved games together. I'm not worried about him opening my game and messing with it.

HOWEVER, he has his own login for the Creature Creator. So we had all our creatures separate.

Now that we have both played the full game a bit, the creatures he created show up as being created by ME! That's stupid. I don't want HIS creatures showing up on MY Sporepedia profile. I love him. I love watching him play. I love seeing the creatures he creates. But they are NOT mine! This has even irritated him because wants to see his creatures under his own profile. He's proud of what he creates and it sucks for him to have to go to MY profile to see his work.

The 3 install limit is ridiculous. The single login is utter lalalala.

Well said, get onto support and give them some hassle, they promised it in the manual.
They said they've given special privileges for two accounts because of the inconvenience, but it still doesn't work.
Pester them, or they'll just get away with it.

My husband played last night.
I had all day today off, so I was going to get my account going and have fun myself.
No luck. First it took me ages to figure out how to open it on Vista (there's a thing in the FAQ about it now)
Then I find out I can't make my own account! This is lalalala.
My husband has a bunch of viscious, volitile carnivores. I want friendly herbavores. I do not want to be on his account and get eaten by the hostile environment he's made!
The printed rules say we can have multiple accounts. I WANT my own account! I have to wait a week for my next day off. It better be fixed by then, or I'll consider just returning the game and getting my money back. my husband has enough games he enjoys playing on his own. He got this for us to share.

The "one account per installation" idea is really bad. If I were subscribing to this game and paying a monthly fee (like you do most MMORPGs) then I could understand it, but this was not the case, and certainly not how EA promoted this game.

I really REALLY want more than one account for this game. I play it. My 6 year old son plays it. And now my partner wants to play it. We've seriously got to all share the same account and have all our creations linked to the same username??? That's just ludicrous! We'd all like to have our own creations linked to our own usernames. Forcing me to buy more installations is just not on EA! Please please please sort this out guys. It's a tremendous game, but if I have to fork out more money so that my whole family can enjoy it on more than one account I will seriously reconsider playing any further.

Glad it's not just me.

Seriously, do EA expect a family of 4 to pay £120 to play a game like this?

@ itsmoirob --- that does not work. But I'm not creating a new account, simply trying to retrieve my account from the Creature Creator (which had two accounts from two different Windows Vista user accounts.) I did not have to buy the CC twice.

Yes we have been screwed by E.A. on this release. They require internet activation of any given Spore account to play and CONNECT to online capabilities. This means only one user per computer. That's it, plain and simple.

On page 3 of my manual it states:

You must register online with the provided serial code. Only one registration available per game.

On page 52 of my manual it states:

You may have multiple Spore accounts for each installation of the game.

NOW many people think these statements contradict, but they don't. It is simple:

One account to activate and register the software.

Other accounts can then be added to the registered installation.

So as it is now, those with more than on gamer per computer, are being screwed by EA. They released a game bugged and incompatible to the millions who want to play.

Has there been any feedback from the Senior staff as yet?

For those that wish to try and attempt making a second/third account and can't get to the correct screen follow these instructions

Browse to C:\Documents and Settings\[windows user name] \Application Data\Spore\Preferences\ then rename the file login.prop to "loginold.prop"

(Note: The 'Application Data' folder may be hidden, if so go to the Tools menu -> Folder Options -> View and tick 'Show hidden files and folders')

When you next start Spore you will get the window asking if you wish to register. Just go ahead and create your new account.

(You may want to go in to the Settings|Online and tick the "Prompt at start up" box.

Let us know if anyone can successfully create a new account? I've not been able to.
Hi,

do you know how to do this with vista?

Thanks

It does not work BUT for vista... Go to FOLDER OPTIONS in CONTROL PANEL and turn off hidden files...

After that you go to your main folder, " what you named your login, check the start menu...

Then you go to the Appdata folder... Roaming folder... SPORE... PREFERENCES... and you find the login.prop

It will not work

I hadn't seen that--I hadn't seen the original quote posted as this threads heading until looking at these forums for just this question.

I guess that's just a shame that EA are expecting people to pay over €100 for more then two people to play the game, share creatures and also follow their own progress in the game--people who have to play offline cannot view their achievement as this is an 'Online Luxury.'.

If you were crazy enough to actually do that, can you even install two different copies on one computer? I'm kinda suspicious about that

It doesn't seem right because when I made my spore account it was "linked" to my product key in one way. Needless to say this needs fixing. Yet another problem caused by them trying to "crack down" on pirates when they'll just find a way around it anyway. Who really suffers? Muggins, that's who!

Default One user limit

Just to add my 2 pence worth to this, I want my son to be able to see the creatures he created (on his own log on i might add) in CC in the main spore game.

i mailed tech support who inform me that "we are aware of the misprint in the manual". So my next reply is going to be along the lines of "please will you mail my 10 year old son to tell him he cant play the game he has been anticipating eagerly for 3 years, helped create over the last few months using creature creator, simply cos you want him to fork out another £40 for another Licence"!!!

I lived with being unable to connect for 2 days - the offline version of the game being acceptable. I lived with the seemingly unbalanced difficulty levels - all stages up to civ on hard being easy, then the civ being about unbeatable. I lived with the constant Pirate attacks and 'Eco-Disasters' of the space stage, but this is the straw that broke this particular ungulates back!!!

a very unhappy customer!!!

My latest and final e-mail to EA Support after waiting over 24 hours for a reply.

"It seems like nobody now is willing to deal with this, so I'm giving it until the time I finish work today to recieve some sort of resolution that works, then not only will I get onto Trading Standards in the UK over this, I will be sending a letter to PCZone's watchdog column as well other games magazines.
The server issues alone have made this launch of Spore a farce, yet add in the change in way accounts work from The Creature Creator and the blatent lies in the manual, with absolutely no resolution from EA after 5 days since launch is just ridiculous.
Not even an explanation of the server problems from anyone at EA.

Sorry this e-mail couldn't be one of thanks instead, but I've had enough.

Yours angrily

Ste.

P.S. I will not be buying anymore EA games and certainly not another copy of Spore, I will also be cancelling my pre-order of Crysis Warhead as well. "

And they told you it was a misprint? That's not a misprint, that's an outright lie.

Yep, i feel angry about it.
In the same way that they advertised "Order online and get ingame first", but while i was waiting to play i was chatting to someone in the Netherlands who was already in the Space stage!!
And - now you got me started :P - where are all those "Procedural Verbs" Will Wright was bigging up, you bite and move at the same time and teach your creature to drag...
and...and...
ah whats the point /sighs

The whole situation is just stupid.

I bought the game for the wife and myself, like I said above.

Some games are mostly mine (e.g. Mercenaries 2), some are mostly hers (e.g. Harvest Moon), Spore is a game for both of us.

And obviously we want to use different accounts so our creatures (and achievements?) don't get mixed up.

To sell a game that only one person can play is insane. We're not using different computers. We have one PC in the house that we both use.

If they're really selling a PC game with a completely new ownership model, it really needs to be in big letters on the front of the box. They should have sold Spore: One User Edition and Spore: Family Licence Pack, or something, so that it was clear. Mind you, given what it says in the manual, I guess even EA weren't really clear about how it all worked.

I wish I could get my money back, but Blockbuster don't take back open PC games. I'm not even playing it any more, as it seems unfair of me to do so when my wife can't play it.

Also, it's been over twenty-four hours now without a reply from EA Support. I expect they're a bit busy right now...

It means if i go around a friends house, i could use his installation to log into my Spore account, so each installation can play multiple accounts, however each account must have a unique CD key. So when people try to register a 2nd account to the same cd key its throwing a wobbler.

That's lala they call it a misprint. It is not even possible to install two copies of the same game on a single computer. Tech Support was saying that because they are worthless.

Of course this game was intended to have multiple users on a single computer. EA simply messed up and shipped a buggy game.

We have to keep up this complaint until EA fixes this major problem.

That is no answer. My son is not going to happy having to have some of my creations shared under the same name as his, and neither am i having to share his. surely the data for this can be stored under the docs and settings folder for each user?? is it not that easy?
I agree that the product should have had the functionality for multiple users, and either it didnt work as expected when shipped or ea execs pulled it before release. Its difficult to believe that such an important fact would not have been proof read before the manual was released!! by Several different people!!!

Hey AcidWeb, you may want to find a different link to post other than that one as it seems to retain your login info and lots of info that should probably not be seen by others.

I managed to find all your personal details in there, postal address, registration code for Spore etc.
