Default Space Stage, screen flicker, freezes, CTD D3D9.DLL

Aside from my registration problem I've now had at least 4 lock ups where the screen flickers but only at the space stage... so far anyway. Judging from my event log it looks like a graphics driver issue but of course may not be!

There was another thread about this which I posted in but I can't find it anywhere now!?

System
Intel QX9650
8gb
Vista 64bit
Nvidia 280, 177.83 driver.

My event log shows:

Faulting application SporeApp.exe, version 1.1.0.338, time stamp 0x4897d819, faulting module d3d9.dll, version 6.0.6001.18000, time stamp 0x4791a65d, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x00006dc4, process id 0x17d8, application start time 0x01c90f40faeb0680.

Well.. I guess I'll just talk in my own thread although I can see other people do have the same issue or similar.

Updated my graphics drivers to the latest Nvidia Beta 177.92, same issue. It's crashed on me about 8 times now, most often it's when zooming out from the solar system. Generally I get about 30mins to an hour although I've had as much as 3 hrs today.

Latest event log from the last crash:

Faulting application SporeApp.exe, version 1.1.0.338, time stamp 0x4897d819, faulting module d3d9.dll, version 6.0.6001.18000, time stamp 0x4791a65d, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x00006dc4, process id 0x162c, application start time 0x01c90fabc235969d.

Can anyone confirm the event log entries? and would you guys mind listing some basic system specs (graphics card in particular since this is a dx9 crash).

Another thread with a similar (although maybe not the same issue)

One of my kids who got to the Space Age last night has just had the same crash at EXACTLY the same fault offset, same faulting module - d3d9.dll and the same exception code 0xc0000005.

His system spec is:

Q6600
4gb
Nvidia 9800GTX

Can we get a EA tech response for this issue please?

Because there's no autosave this is a total pain.

Default Me too...

Exactly the same problem...

Intel Q9550
4GB
Geforce 8800 GTX

Fresh install of vista 32bit fully updated and all latest drivers.

Looking at other posts this may be a multi-core issue; gonna try to run in single core mode. Saw another recent post about the game only using a single core when running.

Any luck with single core mode tommo?

I have currently shelved the game due to the constant and annoying attacks in the Space Stage on the normal setting and this ridiculous crash.

Havent managed to get back to the space stage yet; I assumed the game autosaved the first time i was playing, for 7 hours, lol. So had to start over.

Will let you know today... for the record, switching to single cpu core hasn't buggered anything else up yet! )

Ive got the same problem. However i get the Dasamx86Dll.dll bug, which is what a lot of people are getting. Ive never had a d3d9.dll crash yet strangely enough, as that .dll controls graphics >.<

I've checked my event logs and my kid's system's event logs and I only have a record of d3d9.dll. I only let the system fully crash the app a couple of times so I only have a couple of records on each system. It's possible that the events are related or the same as your Dasamx86Dll.dll but of course they may be completely different.

Neither machine crashed at all until the Space Stage and both got the freeze with a flashing screen, sound still going and the game may well have been still running in the background..

Hopefully the devs at EA are already aware of these issues and, of course, all the other issues and... we'll see a patch very soon! I am extremely dissappointed that EA released the game with this issue, the issue with the logon and the silly situation with being attacked constantly at the Space Stage the combination of all these issues has really wrecked the potential this game has.

Well.. Thought I'd have another go. 2hrs later 2 crashes with a slightly different event log entry. The crashes, however, were identical... flickering screen, freeze but mouse moves and the game was still sort of running..

Faulting application SporeApp.exe, version 1.1.0.338, time stamp 0x4897d819, faulting module SporeApp.exe, version 1.1.0.338, time stamp 0x4897d819, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0081dc17, process id 0x165c, application start time 0x01c910f549bc8754.

I should point out that today I double checked my Direct X modules are the latest.. they are.

I also am getting the same crash. I am running windows vista 64bit premium, with a nvidia gtx280. The game was fine during the early stages and I've only just noticed the problem during the space age. I hope EA sort this out as the game is now bordering on unplayable.

back from earlier experiment with running it on only one core... still crashes. boo! now leaning towards the idea that it really is a graphical system error; either the game or driver. Least I saved this time!

Well it's Monday.. would be nice to see some acknowledgement from EA about this issue.. I am still playing the game but now save almost constantly... It is extremely annoying. I think I've had about 10-15 crashes altogether. Late last night I had one just flying round a planet.. this is the first time this has happened.

I've had this same issue a number of times over the weekend, it happens at the planet/space barrier when zooming back out to space.

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (2700 MHz)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows Vista x64 (Service Pack 1)
DirectX version: 10.0
GPU processor: GeForce 8800 GTX

2Gb RAM

I think for the time being developing a 'Save Fetish' strategy is the only viable workaroud tho ATM.

Again, this is a known bug. Petition it in the SPORE Patch petition, where the link is in my signature.

My friend had this issue and I told him to make a Support Ticket. As the EA Community Staff are not game technicians. The best way off getting a fix to this issue is posting a support ticket guys.
