I load up the game yet again, try moving from planet to solar system on a few different planets and it works fine, I head on over to my home planet to try it there again and still crashes.

This bug has cropped up twice before on a couple other seemingly random planets, both after extended amounts of playtime without any saves. With the current situation I have the game saved right before I'm about to enter the bugged planet.

To make things worse, I take a look at my creature creations after these crashes to notice I have far more creatures than I should have. Apparently after each cralalalala duplicates all of my creatures which are (I think) on the homeplanet. So I've got rows of identical creatures sharing the same creation time. After removing all of the clones and giving the buggy planet another attempt, the same thing happens again.

I have played the game for a considerable amount without any other random crashes, so I've only ever had crashes with the transition from planets to solar systems.

So I'm thinking maybe one of my creations are corrupt? And perhaps the duplications are a really poor attempt at fixing the problem, assuming they are closely linked with the crashes.

But that's just a guess, I don't really have a clue. Any suggestions?

Edit: Just realized I've been saying planets to galaxies instead of planets to solar systems. Whoops. :P
i have this same problem Too

and exception is:

i reinstalled the game and now it seems to be working again. lets see how long this lasts.

it started to crash again..... but it took like 4-5 hours to crash more or less.guess till they fix it iam gonna have to reinstall it once a day. not to bad but still sucks.

its been happening to me when i upgrade all the cities and replace the turrets, so i tried without editing any city at all and hey presto i can get back off the planet surface, so then i tried editing the cities and just not filling them all, and still i can get off the planet, it seems if my cities are at maximum capacity then it crashes, thats probably why it only happens on my home planet(10 cities at maximum capacity)

so in short ....yes the solution worked for me

OH- i hadnt been in combat(just loaded the game up) and its the dvd game

I posted about this a while back. I tried removing all the turrets from a bunch of my cities and it had no affect, Once I'd gotten locked into the planet nothing I could do would let me leave. So it only works so long as you haven't gotten stuck while leaving (use the keyboard to zoom back in, tab out an back shoudl refresh the screen and you'll find yourself back on the surface.).

Still smells like a memory leak though.

I have a similar problem.
My Xfire Profile has my computer specs if needed.
Profile Page - Xfire (username = giskarduk)

My game does not crash to the desktop when i leave a planet, it does that load jutter that normally happens and never stops. It never loads the solar system level again, it just keeps juttering constantly.

I ran some tests and found this mostly happens on the home planet, rarely else where. IF a crash does happen else where it makes the screen appear to have strange bands on it and lockes up so its not the same error, looks completely different.

If the home planet is attacked and i go their at first, nothing bad happens but as the game progresses, the problem occurs more frequently. If i do not go to the home planet until after an attack has ended, it still crashes when i try to leave dispite no combat taking place.

I tried fixing turrets and buildings, not fixing turrets and buildings, i tried picking up items the bad guys dropped and not picking up items the bad guys dropped. I tried answering all my messages and not answering all my messages. I tried repairing my ship and power and not repairing my ship and power.

Same result every time.

The crashes always happen at the point where it normally loads the solar system, ive never seen the crash happen when on the solar system screen or in galaxy mode. Its always when leaving the home planet.

I should add that fighting on other planets is usually far safer, rarely do i see this bug there. Its only the home planet that consistantly causes this bug to appear in my game, and i do mean consistently as in 100% dead cert to happen again if it happened before, type of consist. A repeatable, easily identifable, EA has no excuse for missing it type of bug.

Other errors I saw more frequently early on in the space phase was that banding and again they happened on planets not in space.

I had no problems with any phase except the space phase, everything else worked great.

I have 4 gig ram and these errors happen almost right away, I have no time to play for hours before they start, they are there waiting for me the moment the game starts.

Unfortunately this bug stops the game from being played, its a real take it back to the shops kind of bug. Users reading this and thinking about buying Spore should wait until they patch it because you cannot play it, not like this, its not even possible to play around the bug at all.

Your just stopped dead in the final part of the game after spending 15 hours working up to that point.

Some word from EA on this would be nice, otherwise in a few days im taking spore back to the place i brought it as a defective item. Sorry but a game that cannot be finished is defective.

Default Patch doesnt fix crash when zooming out of homeplanet

Great, the patch doesn't fix the crash when zooming out of homeplanet.

Well done EA, add cheats for a game that lots of people cant play.

Hang on a minute, Ive just had a fantastic idea, why dont EA fix the GAME in the next patch?

I've been having this crash happen a helluva lot too.

Follow this thread for a workaround. It isn't practical, but it worked.

This needs to be fixed, and there can't be many excuses for not doing so now.

Alt Tabbing does make the rest of the interface start working again so that has been confirmed. Also i found quitting to the menu was possible after that and if you reloaded to a time before you got attacked, random events may work out differently.

Not a fix but it seems to effect the home planet mostly and once you remove all the usual alien enemies from around your home planet, this problem starts to be reduced.

I recommand rapidly bombing the hell out of everything thats red.

Only seems to crash when leaving Homeworld, when I have 3 allie ships in my fleet... if I get rid of 1 it seems to work fine.

I've noticed on te crash logs that there is a memory Leak somewhere
EA_PLATFORM: Windows on X86
OS name: Windows Vista
OS version number: 6.0.6000
OS service pack:
Debugger present: no
CPU count: 2
Processor type: x86
Processor level: 6
Processor revision: 3850
Memory load: 91%
Total physical memory: 2045 Mb
Available physical memory: 164 Mb
Total page file memory: 4307 Mb
Available page file memory: 1892 Mb
Total virtual memory: 2047 Mb
Free virtual memory: 508 Mb

Out of the 2Gb Ram only 164 MB free ----> definately a memory leak causing the crash. NOW its up to EA to find which class is leaking memory

You call me a copy cat - might it be because I have the same problem as the gentleman that posted before me? Do I have to add a sarcastic comment to this post?

Im too drunk for sarcasm my young lad, too drunk, oh yes. (dr brackman nOObs)

Hello, I've already noticed that if we throw away the file "Pollination.package" from "C:\Documents and Settings\*******\Dane aplikacji\SPORE" we will be able to fly away from the homeworld without any problem. However, it works only one time. It means that if we once fly away and back, we won't be able to fly away second time, (unless we eliminate this file again)

Default My problems:

My computer has:
1 gig of ram
3 GHZ Intel Pentium 4
512 nVidia GeForce 7600...GS or GT, I forget which (my father has an identical one that is the other abbreviation)
and of course, XP.

My game crashes anytime I leave my homeworld now, though it was infrequently happening before, even on other planets. It seems to happen during combat, but I tried a fix I read on these forums. I removed all of my turrets on the homeworld and I was impressed, I could actually leave my homeworld!!

However when I returned to the planet, hoping that I could rebuild the turrets now that the combat had ended, soon as I rebuilt them and tried to leave, it crashed again. Im still working on some other fixes, but this one seems to work for now (however, kind of sucks not having defenses on your main planet...)

Default sigh

I have the same problem..bottom line is that i cant continue to play the game, ive even tried one of the solutions suggested here on the forum but ive no idea if it worked cause now i have a bigger problem which is that my race that ive made is gone from the save file, each time i load the game its a different race each time.
I guess trying to fix it with adding and removing/replacing files was a long shot. I should't have to either. Either way it didnt work..i have my saved files but my race is gone.
Why should i botter with this at all?
Im just fed up with all of it right now
