I'm having the exact same problem as Beerduck. I've turned of my firewall but it doesn't make a difference. I have the galactic edition and I'm currently on hold with EA support.

Yeah, bought the GE this morning and i'm getting this error. I'm in the UK. Any word on what's causing the problem. And if I begin a new game without enabling the online capabilities will I be able to add them in later when the problem is resolved?

I'm from Belgium, and I had mine from wensdey. First i get the "Unkown error" message, and Now I have get "The registration code can't be validated". I'm trying to register my game for 3 days with no luck. The game itself is awesome, it just blows that I can't register it. I bought the GE version, and that costed me 65 euros, so I realy expect this game to work as it was intended to work. I understand Server problems, but 3 Days seems long. I'm just glad i'm not the only one with the problem. Does anyone here know if EA is beware of this.

I am also having issues with GE edition, brought from GAME.
Looking forward to this game for 4 bloody years, i think its an utter joke.

I'm from Latvia, and I used the EADM (UK EA Store) to get Spore. It gives me the exact same error.

I think this problem affects those who have downloaded Spore from EADM from the UK Store, and GE users.

I was getting as far as the linking my installation to my account before it said no. Now it's started telling me I don't have the privelege to use the online features. Is this only GE users? It sucks

I've spoken to EA support and they say a lot of GE users have had the problem. They gave me a new serial to try and I'm currently reinstalling with it now. They didn't know if that would fix it and asked me to write back with the results. I'll update you guys as well.

EDIT: The new serial they gave me worked flawlessly. So the solution seems to be to call EA support. Hope that helps you all.

Physical GE box bought in EB Games in Denmark gives me the "registration key could not be validated".
I never tried actually accessing online content, as this error message made me completely convinced that it would be unavailable.

I also bought Spore this morning and I am having the same problem.
With a little digging you can clearly see that the on the main spore.com they are having maintenance done. And the the fact that you couldn't register if you got it a day early or so probably was because that simple speaking, that part wasn't turned on

Just as I am typing this the maintenance has just ended so I try again now otherwise contact EA Customer Support

I just rang the support number and was told they're aware of the issue but the only answer at the moment is to play offline and keep trying to login. No replacement serial number for me

Same problem as you guys, GE, windows XP.
Might try emailing them if it doesn't get fixed soon, otherwise I might ring them as it seems to be the most efficient solution.

How long were you on the phone to them to get this new serial?

EDIT: The music on their phone line is rediculous, and there's alot of interference, but what I eventually got out of them was that they are waiting for their spore team to give them an estimated time to fix the problem.

They say my code is valid (after lots of Alpha-ing, boy-ing, and zebra-ing) but the game is somehow not linking up to the servers properly, and that the problem is at their end.

Oh and on a side note - Thank you EA, for placing your call centre in america, instead of in some country with a horrible accent I can't understand...

Bought the online version and after logging in:

"The code for this installation is invalid and cannot be used to link to your account"

Bit annoying if you ask me . Did QA go on vacation while they were testing logins?

I called tech support too. They told me that cannot be an issue with the registration key because I managed to get the game installed with it - no new key for me either. They told me to call again on monday if this is not sorted by then...

Same prob here... so does that mean tech support is aware of the problem? Might it have something to do with the spore site being down and no-one able to connect anyway?

I have waited long enough, I want to play AND conneclalalag!

Called EA Customer support, didn't give me a Serial, but they are aware of the problem, and that a lot off people had experienced the same thing (tell me something I don't know ). They said they couldn't fix the problem at the moment, but all the complaints are being mailed to EA HQ, and it might be a server error (again, tell me something... well you get my point). I think the only answer is patience.
