Just got off the phone with EA tech support (The Netherlands) and I've been told that atleast in Holland, Belgium and Luxemburg (known to us as the Benelux) there have been some problems with the Spore server and that this is entirely EA's fault.
The support worker assured me their working on fixing it but he doesn't have an ETA as of yet. I've bought the Galactic Edition of Spore if that makes any difference.

I myself am getting very ****ed off at the online services that EA hosts. Things never work as they should or just not at all (Red Alert 3 Beta and now Spore).

Offtopic: Securom reactivations appear to be quite difficult to get back after 3 activations: Here in Holland its apparantly neccesary to PROVE that you own the game by making a picture of your game manual with the serial keycode on it and then sending it to their techsupport email with a request to give you another activation key. A lot of this info was already floating around on these forums but you could consider it confirmed as of now.

Get your act together EA!

Yep the same thing here, I've just bought it from game as with the 1000's of other UK gamers installed it and now I cant even login to play it.

EA *** are you playing at, this could bring a major lawsuit against you.

guess what?........ i have the same problem your not alone it says You do not have the proper Spore.com privileges to use this product's online features and if ea asks if i can provide proof of purchase i can..... also i cant believe i preordered the galactic addition just run into all these problems

I have been waiting ages for this game to come out and had high expectations (i mean who wouldnt its EA where talking about here). n then i get it n i carnt get my ****** game to authenticate with my account. im ****** off. EA what is happening please sort this quickly

What really ****es me off about this all is that we had to wait an extra 6 months because the spore team wanted to in their words "make the product as perfect and polished as it could be".

So whats this lalalala? you had 6 months, you didnt think perhaps to check to see if it worked? I mean on freaking release day!!! did you expect people to buy the game and then think ahh well I'll play it tomorrow.

same thing here, says something like reg key can not be validated. If you try to login on the spore website, it says its down for maintenance, i suspect that's the problem. i tried using my US account i created when i had the creature creation set and it connects but it then says that it cant login because the key is not for this instalation or something like that (i have the digital EU version). On the US spore website i can login, its not down for maintenance.

Also, if i try to login using the US account, the game changes to english language.

Yep, got my copy on the 4th; just assumed I couldn't get online cos it wasn't really supposed to be out yet in the UK. Then it tells me I have an invalid key, and that I don't have online priveleges. Called EA and was told they were working on it...grr! I want Sporepedia! This better get fixed, I refuse to believe my game is "Invalid"; bloody Galactic Edition!

can one of you guys who have the game working see if you have a "DasmX86Dll.dll" in your spore folder? can you upload it to like, filefront or mediafire or something? my games installed ok, but crashes and says that file is missing

Same here.

To be expected from all EA games though. I've had my copy of C&C3 cracked from day one, since it always failed the securom check even though the DVD was in the drive.

Unofficial third party cracks are usually the ONLY way to get legit copies of EA games to run, in my experience.

Anyway - Same problem, Galactic edition, really ****ing me off.

I bought my copy from the Direct2drive.co.uk.

What a hellish experience that was, but by the sounds of it, its just that the server which checks for the key seems to be down.

Hopefully they'll fix it soon.

I also bought the GE so I have it on a DVD and can play it (offline though, which is not as good as when one would play online). As I said before in this thread: EA knows of the problem and is working on it...I don't doubt them there...the problem is gonna be, how long it will take them to fix it. I remember the days of Kane's Wrath and the CONSTANT desyncs while playing it online. A patch to fix it was made...like 5 months after release though. Lets just hope it won't take this long for Spore.

UK Galactic Edition just a hour ago purchased from the local Game.

As if the copy protection isn't egregious enough, now this. Very poor show, EA. Very poor show indeed.
