I scanned through the registry and no key is visible under Hkey_locale_machine for spore. So maybe the problem is that it does not write the key into the registry for some reason? I can find several spore settings, EA and Electronic Arts setting, EA downloader settings , but not anything that would look like a key or even an encrypted key. Well maybe it is not stored there. Update: I reinstalled with admin rights and it is now listed in registry. But problem remains still.

Hi,
I too cannot login into Spore: I don't have the right privileges to play the game!? I have Spore Galactic Edition with serialnumber. Loginname and password are both correct and work with all the other EA-loginscreens. Hope to get a solution soon... |

I don't think there was ever a "login" issue as such as even with the first error purposefully entering the incorrect login information would tell you that right away, but entering the correct login information would firstly ask if it should link the accounts

Well, I have to say... for those who got the Galactic edition, at least it comes with enough goodies to keep us entertained until a resolution can be found. Sure it's not the game with online features... but at least I'm not gonna be sat here doing nothing. But I refuse to even start this game until I can download other people's content and creatures.
That was EA's plan all along wasn't it!

Another victim right here. I've encountered the very same issues everybody in this thread seems to have. Windows XP, legally bought Spore Galactic Edition, European/ Dutch Version (I live in the Netherlands).
I'm quite sure that the serial keys are related to the different Spore versions out there. EA is able to determinate which version you own, just by scanning some sort of pattern in the serial keys. This is not only used for statistics (which % of user have the EADM version, how many GE's are sold, etc), but they are also displayed through Sporepedia profiles. Right now, my profile displays the CC Trial version as an owned product. Assumed the activation will work someday, my profile should also display 'Spore Galactic Edition', while any user with the normal edition will just receive an icon labelled 'Spore' in his or her profile. I think that the EADM version also receives it's own label. So it seems the servers only recognise serials for the standard retail edition right now, the Downloaded version for either the SE or GE fail, as well as the retail GE. I'm waiting for over 68 hours right now, my copy arrived wednesday and I haven't been able to login since then... |

I get
I get this message: "You do not have the proper spore.com priviliges to use this product's online features" I also get this message: "Login Failed - The code for this installation is invalid and cannot be used to link this product to your account" Using EADM spore... |

So is it just the galactic edition that's having these problems?
I'm getting the a mixture of not having privelages to use spore.com and an invalid key or some such thing... Eurgh. Also it says something about the game when the technical support forum is the most view forum for it.... |

Yeah, seems there are plenty of us having this problem. And while I'm happy to see EA_Omni working on this and letting us know little tidbits every here and there, his constant use of "I can log in", "I have tried" and whatever, makes me wonder if he is the one and only person looking into this which would pretty much eliminate any chances of this issue being resolved within a week.
As many as there are who apparently have this problem it would be in EA's best interest to put as large a team on this issue as possible to fix it ASAP. Not only that - where is any official announcement of this problem? How can they NOT put up some news somewhere, informing the public of what is going on and assuring us they are working on getting it fixed asap. Now - lots of gamers out there don't hang out in forums, or would even know how to access them. Where are they going to find out what's going on? Not that these forums give us a lot of information - this is the one place (and I've searched high and low) where any EA representative has uttered a single sentence as to this problem. Official Spore website... not a peep (except of course a roar from unhappy customers). I am very disappointed at how this has been handled, and it's now well over 24 hours since I bought the game. I am considering going back to the store, and trade my copy for another one to get a new CD-Key, and see if that would help. Chances are slim, so I'm not sure that would be worth it either. |

Going back to the registry, i've done another serach and found the CD-Key in there, so that's likely a red herring too.
LeeMortis is right, they need to make an official announcement and get as big a team as possible working in fixing this right now. Despite the fact people can get on and play fine, others (us) can't... and we paid the same as them, if not more (for GE version) and feel pretty much like we're getting screwed over. |
