Default I can't even install Spore.

I picked Spore up on the way home. The drive in my brand new Dell XPS system totally fails to read the disc and I can't even install it. The disc is in perfect condition, of course, being brand new. No other discs or games cause any trouble, just this one. I'm assuming this is the wonder of Securom, then. [removed - Discussion of game pirating is not allowed).

What actually happens, does it just fail to read the disk altogether, what disk are you using, and why have you already turned to illegal file sharing when you have not tried any way to resolve the issue before?

You're jumping the gun a bit here. Are you getting any errors when you try to install? Have you contacted the support team?

What disc am I using? The Spore DVD. Yes, it fails to read the disc altogether. The drive grinds for minutes and then concludes that there is no disc in there. How else am I to resolve this, exactly. I have my serial and I'm ready to go.

No errors. Like I said, the drive fails to read the disc. Support team? Where?

Sorry typo, it is a DVD drive you are using isn't it?

Clean the disk and maybe put the disk in and go to My Computer>Disk Drive>Setup.exe

There are contact details for the support team in the manual. Alternatively you can contact them through the support centre

Yes, it is a DVD drive. The disc can't get any cleaner than it already is, I assure you. The disc refuses to be read. I can't get to a listing of it's contents or the setup.exe.

It sounds like a chipset driver issue, my guess would be that your using Nvidia's chipset ide drivers? If I'm correct there are ways around this but support would need to assist you with them.

I don't really know how to resolve that sorry.

Maybe post your system specs up?

This is on my gaming computer. I have like a ton of games installed here and none of them cause trouble. Just this one.

That's a bit crazy isn't it? I assume you're talking about using the nforce mainboard drivers?

I used to use them in XP, not in Vista though, and the improvement in performance was immense. Strikes me as crazy they'd mess things up like this. Then again, it's windows, it wouldn't surprise me

Its a problem with the Drive it might be too old to run the game, you'll have to swap the drives round maybe?

Like I said in the first post, the system is brand new, which means 2 months old.

Try another game in the drive. I've had this before and had to fix it with a new DVD-drive.

Default I have the excact same problem..

I also have a dell XPS and i have the same problem.. the drive seems to be unable to view the size of the file.. My brother installed it on his computer with no problems what so ever.. The problem i am having is the EA support/help/pol/Crashes.html ... Kind of ironic right :P

Whilst I wouldn't recommend it, I've had games that wouldn't work unless I installed them and went back to the windows default.

Well it strikes me as odd if the dell XPS system can't install SPORE since Will uses his XPS to play SPORE.. So im wondering if this is alle the other dell XPS 1710 that has this problem with SPORE.
