Default Spore Patch 1 Now Available *Mac version now available*

Patch 1 for the PC version of Spore is now available, with the MAC version being released at a later date. You can grab the patch by launching the EA Download Manager and getting it from there, alternatively you can download it from the following link: http://eu.llnet.cdn.ea.com/u/f/eagam...tch_all_v1.exe

Mac users need to simply start the game and follow the prompts.

The Patch 1 release notes can be found here.

Default Worked

Patch worked fine. Though the decreased time between attacks I didnt really need anymore. Already found a user made thing for that.

patched mine last night... it went okay but did take a LONG time to install, a good 30mins on a 5 star vista system, and a lot of it it just sat at 0%, so maybe worth leaving computer a while before you think it has failed

Hey all (first post, yay). I just got the patch thing. It seemed to download and install the patch okay, as far as I could tell, but now it won't actually open the game itself, which is slightly annoying. I'm not the most computer savvy person in the world so the chances are I did/didn't do something that I should have/shouldn't have done. Did anyone else have this problem, or know how to fix it?

Nice to see progress but there are bigger issues with the game than tuning the stats so to say. There is a big number of people who have issues making the game unplayable, like myself. I can't start the game before patch and neither after the patch....

Default what a stupid thing

I had downloaded then installed the patch when it said confirgerating patches. it zipped rapidly from 0 to 100 percent before not responding before crashing . IT UNINSTALELD MY GAME AND NOW I CANT REINSTALL IT. WHY DO EA GIVE US THIS PATCH WHEN IT CONTAINS SMALL (NOT NEDDED) UPGRADES AND RUINS OUR GAMES. i WANT A REPONSE FROM EA NOW What ARE THEY GOING TO DO ABOUT MY GAME.

I am now trying to reinstall the patch

I was lucky enough to not have too many technical problems with Spore, only having a few crashes if playing space for a while.

What I will say though is that whilst this patch doesn't go far enough, it is nice to see a quick response to issues about gameplay. Personally, I thought the sheer rate of attacks made the game virtually unplayable anyway, so this is a very welcome update! :-) (Although I confess I am in the process of downloading the update, so I don't know how effective it is yet!)

I didn't encounter any problems with Spore until the patch, granted I've only been playing the first two stages of the game. After patching the game, on stage two of the game, some hostile creatures turned invisible while attacking, so that you can only see the red lightning things radiating from nowhere. Also a huge lag appeared between pressing an action key and hearing the sound effect and actually seeing the action on the screen. Clicking on food or an upgrade piece now works only two times out of three. I'm not impressed.

I had heaps of problems with the install. It froze on 0%, crashed and corrupted the Spore.exe file. I also used the link that Adroit posted above rather then the EA Download Manager.

If anyone is having problems, there are a few reasons behind it:

1) There can be problems if SPORE was not installed to the Default Directory. Even an External Hard Drive can cause problems
2) The File takes 30 mins at least to load. It's 90mb, so it's not small! Be patient, it should load evantually. It does seem to freeze a couple of times during the install, but the install is still running.

Also, as advice, I'd suggest restarting your PC before the install. This should clear any residual cashe problems that may hinder the program. It was only after restarting my laptop that I managed to get it to work.

The patch installer choked my system good, but it finished successfully after what felt like a long, long while.

So I wouldn't rush to assume it isn't working if it appears to hang the system.

Default And the whingers say?

What's exactly the problem with EA releasing a patch REALLY quickly that takes into account feedback of those playing the game, and fixes a lot of the obviously broken stuff - particularly the space stage attack frequency. All I'm hearing is sequential moaning!

Be glad that EA listened to the forums and fixed the really poo stuff so quick! (and patch 2 won't be far behind I'm sure)!

If they release the minor patches on a continual basis, EA won't have to release Major ones. The longer you leave a problem, the worse it becomes. Also, even though EA has probly done countless testing on SPORE, you have to think about the whole picture!
How many SPORE games were bought in the last few weeks? How many hours has each person been on the game? Now add all those hours up and you will end up with a HUGE test time.
That's ALOT of testing for a game, isn't it?

While the patch has fixed a lot of gameplay issues, it has added a lot on the graphical side of things. Textures not loading and space travel having become extremely laggy, to mention two of my pet peeves.

Notice and fix, pl0x.
