I'm sorry, but this isn't the way to gain subscribers, and this also isn't a relative topic to Spore Discussion.

Host a contest, join a clan/guild, comment other users' creations and make lots of friends.

There isn't a limit.

I, and a few others, have reached 300 at some point.

Its a little difficult having more than 150 though, because you have to scroll down to find some poor chap at the bottom.

Maybe so, but number of creations does not influence the buddy-cap at all. The limit on the amount of buddies one can have is up to the user them-self, and no one else.
