Default How can I find planet X in Solar System Y

Hi there,

Sorry if this has been asked before but is there an easy way to find a particular solar system/planet?

The jobs the various aliens ask me to do often have lines showing me where to go, but other times they dont...

I have 3 crowns on board my ship and the Spike Empire are gonna pay me well to drop them off to a collector but I'll be damned if I can find the place.

Thanks in advance.

This thread is very relevant to my interests.

Trying to find Solar Systems, let alone Planets is insanely hard unless it's one you visit regularly and I too would love to know if there's an easier way of locating the system or planet you're trying to reach.

I've found myself from time to time putting my mouse over every darn System I can see to try to find the Solar System I need to go to and still never manage to locate it.

I agree, I'm glad it's not just me that's having a problem finding the planets in question. As you say, some have a line leading to them which makes it easier, others you just have to mouse over until you find it.

This will help, sometimes. It's worth a try.

1) Zoom out a fair bit.
2) Click on the icons above your minimap to disable all of the helpful little markers and location keys.
3) Find the one for missions and click it back on. Click it on and off and on and off if you like. Hopefully the relevant solar system will have been indicated somehow and the flashing "element" will draw your eye to it.

I hope this helps.

One more thing, frequently you'll get directions given as "within x parsecs of star y". In this case I think it's indicated by a circle around star y with a width of x parsecs. This means that the star you're after is somewhere WITHIN the circle but it's probably not the one at the centre.

Ah yes, I did see this with one of the missions, that's always a good indication. I've probably been missing it with a few others, sounds like there is always an indication of some kind.

In fact sometimes it will say within 2 to 3 parsecs of a star, then you will see a double ring around the star, it will be between the 2 rings...

Planet x in system y -- select the Mission marker and follow the lines
Within x parsecs of system y -- look inside the circle (or near it)
Within x to y parsecs of system z -- look in the area between the inner and outer circle (or near them)

If you have multiple symbols and can't figure out which one is relevant, make sure the mission is being tracked (otherwise click on "collections" and track the mission in question; maybe you'll have to un-track another mission for the time being if you're already tracking three of them) and then simply click (or hover over) the mission box's title (not in the collections view) -- the symbol in question should be flashing.

Also, the symbol is usually in the empire's colour -- symbols irrelevant to tracked missions are usually white.

Also, you can press P to pause the game while you are looking for a planet, so you dont get attacked by pirates while you are searchin

It’s a pity none of these work for anything other than missions. I could really do with some kind of name scan thin right now.

Are you trying to find a particular creature on a planet? If you are then when your on the surface of the planet, near the top right corner of the map theres a globe icon, click on it and it will bring up details about the creatures, plants and terrascore of the planet. Find the creature you want by holding your mouse over the small blue dots and once you've found the dot relating to the creature your after, click on the dot. That will set your radar to that creature and find the nearest one.

Took me a while to work that one out....

I know about that but even them sometimes I cant find what I want but i am currently looking for a certain star in an area I know it should be in. You already have a sensor/scan range it’s just a pity you can’t actually scan for stars

If your looking for a specific planet and it doesn't appear to be there, look around any gas giants, i found one planet hidden by the gas giant once.

Is this documented anywhere? Sometimes I think this game was made to sell strategy guides.

it's painful to find something in such a vast space! I agree a proper mission tracker is necessary...

Can’t find anything in the GE manual. If I was in it I would expect it to be under radar but there is nothing on the radar except saying its there and finds inportent things
