Im surprised this thread hasnt been locked.

Hi Mezakin, The problem with reffering to the car alarm and other anti theft devices that you make is that if a person is out to steal a car they have alot more to worry about than what a simple person on their PC making a crack to bypass the copy protection would have. Car Alarms are there to make a thief think twice so any attempt of theft is met with the one thing a sneaky thief doesnt want, a loud noise bringing attention to what they are doing. with a game theres no alarm when cracking an anti-piracy, you arent out on a street somewhere vulnerable. you are doing it from the saftey of your home and can sit and look at the anti-piracy, find a way around it and then make a crack. During the whole process there is no *risk* involved for the person making the crack.

That might be where people have found some fault.

I figure that once I have the game if I ever hit my 3 activations ill check and see if a crack will still allow me access to the community, if not then ill still get it but contact EA for my next activation, that way I can play the game while waiting to get access to the community again.

The online side of the game most likely won't work with the securom stuff missing

The cracks that are already floating around claim to work online. Whether there's any accuracy in the claim, I have no idea.

Comaring it too a car can work as it is comaring hwat the systems do to get to an aim, they jsut have different end-systems in place because making your comuter sound an alarm would be pointless. There is more to risk for a car but more gain, and anyway whats important is a cars security should be good because loosing it is bad, so you would expect it to be better and more imposing, however securom is worse (as expected) but is/can be more imposing on the user in the long run.

Well i Just checked a torrent site, dunno if it was mentioned by anyone else but the early copy of spore that was put up apparently was a virus. from what people are saying:

Quote:
The Setup.exe file on the image disc will try to infect your PC with various sorts of baddies
but thats what you get for pirating.

Understood but the biggest problem people have with it is that the anti-piracy is as much (if not more) a burden on the customer that paid than it is on the pirate, untill it is cracked, then theres just no purpose for it anymore. Can you say the same about anti theft devices on a car? Perhaps to some extent but I wouldnt say it was the same level of irritation that the anti-piracy on games are.

yeah but when theres a version floating around with a virus it tends to put people off pirating for a while, I guarantee you the idea of a virus with the game coming in a torrent will stop people pirating it far more than anti-piracy like SecuROM will, and probably for longer than it takes to crack it. depends how quick theres a verified legitamate copy up for torrenting though I suppose.

EDIT:

Not that im suggesting EA drop secuROM and then start throwing out versions infected with Viruses on Torrent sites.

Some people just do it... you'd have to ask them why.

Just noticed this sorry mate.

It all depends on the torrent, If you download that specific torrent it will have the virus regardless of where you grabbed the torrent file to start the main download. But someplaces may have a legit copy, people will hold off though till others test it.

Well, you dont get something for nothing, thats the problem.

The only people that should worry about SecuROM are those who pirate games.

That what i meant when i said it was more imposing (especially when you want more security on your car). Sorry i was a bit vague with my statement.

Anyway... DIE SECUROM DIE... the annoying part of you(securom) doesnt help spore anti-piracy whatsoever. Come on EA, most of securom is incompetent. Make your own system without the rootkit, or anything that lives outside the game, with a verification system built into spore.

You get punished for buying the game instead of pirating it.

I agree. The whole SecuROM is the pirate's fault in the first place. I bet it started cause that fat kiddy who hacked Crysis before the day of release.

LOLHAHAHA

I can just imagine an advert like the ones at the start of them dvds, but saying how piracy is actualy better, where you don't get prosecuted, get everything for free, and get no malware. That would be hilarious.

EDIT: But of course terrible as i think piracy is stupid and you shoud pay. sorry EA for discussing piracy.

Please do not discuss piracy on the forum, including any torrents there may or may not be on the internet.
