Default EA, you're going to lose money because of Securom.

By looking at about 20 pages in threads and counting the amount of people with the signature "No longer buying Spore. I do *NOT* endorse malware/SecuROM" in big red writing, I have figured out that about 1/3.43... of the people in the Spore forums have decided not to buy Spore because of Securom. Thats about 29.16666...% of people have decided against buying Spore. EA, you have probably spent about a millionth of the money you have on putting SecuROM on this game, now because of that, you are going to lose about 29.16666...% of the profit you could have gotten from Spore. Im not telling you to get rid of SecuROM, Im just telling you the facts and advising you against keeping SecuROM on Spore. Do you really think that people want a program which takes administrator rights without telling us and changes many programs, hardware, software etc, without us knowing it? Just think, if you got rid of SecuROM now, that would mean that you will have only lost about a millionth of your money on purchasing SecuROM, but you will have gained almost a third of customers who want to buy Spore, including me! More customers mean more money remember! I know that their have been lots of other threads about SecuROM, but I thought that all the information I have put here was missing from them.

I hope you will take what I have said into consideration.

Yours hopefully, Lukex115, a concerned customer.

Well put. And I think that EA, you will not only lose money on Spore. Other forums have shown a similar in trend in people avoiding SecuROM games. Your hacking into your own profits

If they continue they will probably collect a large number of enemies to boot! all intent on doing EA harm. BAD KARMA!

There is no way that a part of this forum is 29 odd% of the people buying spore, do remeber it is being sold worldwide by a worldwide company+ i think that the reason some of you are still her(not all of you, some of you are really campaigning)is that you are going to buy Spore anyway! A small amount of people will not be noticeable on EA's big fat check after sales.

I am not in favour of SecuROM, i am just being reaslistic, a small amount of people, who some of may be doing what they say there not, are not going to make a huge company change their mind. And can we please remember that EA are doing this to protect you and themselves from piracy etc, albeit a very bad way to go about it.

Please dont kill me

are we counting the number of people on the forums who have the secuROM sig, but are still quite obviously going to buy it? theres been a few people from what i can see who have the sig, yet still go into detail on what creatures they're going to play etc

yes, secuROM is a pain in the butt, but EA is a business and it has to protect its assets. if i planned on not buying it, i wouldnt stick around posting on the spore forums...

Their loss o money could be their "investment". If spore passes the sales enough, it will mean they will be allowed to put such protection on any game that comes out after this one

And maybe, if the pirated games finally become better then originals, pirates will be able to SELL their games again, like back in the '80s

But they are just making piracy worse, think about it. If people arent buying Spore because of SecuROM then quite a few will resort to piracy so they can get the cracked game without the SecuROM! Then, the "pirates" would probably realise that Spore is popular in piracy and they will make cracked versions as well, thus making it a more popular choice. People will think that it is better, free and safer. As is the case with

quite a few pirated files. I would rather get rid of SecuROM, make piracy less popular, and increase profits by a third than make piracy more popular and lose money on what would have been an excellent game.

A securom petition thread exists on all of EA's forums Europe and the US! This protest goes further than you think!

The number of people protesting won't even make a blip in EA's sales records you realise. Even if everyone on the Spore EU and US forums signed up and protested that's still absolutely nothing compared to their overall worldwide sales. Think about it.

Yes but many people on this forum are working to make people outside of the forums aware of the problem.

But all the protestants arent just going to be in the Spore forums. People might come across it elsewhere when they are looking for information about Spore and then maybe tell some of the people they know about SecuROM being on Spore. People will realise that it would just be a waste of time having to deal with the SecuROM and the percentage of people not buying Spore would increase.

compare that to the number of people not posting on the forums who don't particularly care about secuROM and still intend to buy the game, and you have profit in the millions, regardless of any protest.

Yes, but EA could have an extra third of what they will currently get if they remove SecuROM. I, and I think many thousands of others, would choose to have the extra millions!
