Default Spore + SecuROM = Death

I wanted to find some more reactions on the web somewhere and I found this video. Its a girl talking about the same thing some of us here are talking about, namely SecuRom and what it does with the game we all have been hoping for. Spore + SecuROM = Death Video - Spore Game - MLG Game Room
It just shows that people do react to this way of treating customers! Wake up EA!

I can't believe how much I agree with 777788889999, I mean come on EA, do you really think people will buy the game if you go ahead with this?

It could be that they need to show the stockholders (or some people) that they actively do "something" to fight piracy. Who knows? But whoever calls this should be aware that all games are cracked and pirated even without SecuROM and Spore will not be any different. However I believe Spore will get pirated even more than other games and people are suggesting this on other forums too. Just because the hype around Spore is so big that people do want to play this game but lots and lots of people will choose a problem free pirate copy over the original SecuROM infected disks.

By the way, this is a really interesting article I found on copy protection. PC game developer has radical message: ignore the pirates

I think that sums the situation up beautifully. And it goes to show that "Less DRM = More sales".

Look at audio CDs, for instance. I like to listen to music on the go, like on my way to and from work, but I hardly ever listen to music at home. Therefore, I don't buy CDs with heavy copy protection systems on them. If I can't pop the CD in my computer and rip it to mp3 without a hassle, I'm not buying it, simple as that.

LoL @ The Video: "Yes, [SecuROM] makes pirating worse. Or um... Makes pirating harder..."

It looks like EA and all its cronies need to get schooled by Stardock a few more times before they'll sit down and actually listen to what their colleagues and, more importantly, what their customer base (us) is trying to tell them.

I simply don't understand why EA can't see this, it just puzzles me.

Thats what it comes down to I guess, they are a business at the end of the day, so money is their first priority, it makes me think though that it's customers are it's last priority.

great links mate, hope you don't mind me putting them in the copywright thread. Mainly because it has the most views on the entire forum (HELLLOOOOO EA IS ANYONE ALIVE DOWN THERE?!)
and just to have it in multiple places so the likelyhood that people find it is higher -> more awareness -> less people buy -> loss for EA -> more hope for change to actually reasonable terms. [wishfull thinking, i know, but on small scale that's how it goes minus the latter one]

Aside from that, i didn't know sins of a solar empire didn't have any protection o.O + that's indeed a GREAT example of how focusing on piracy = focusing on people who arn't even interrested in giving you money in the first place.

Though i'm pretty sure that if Spore dumps the DRM issues potential customers that have spore on their wishlist and plan on piracy because of SecuROM will revert to buying it again.
[instead of alienating their customers into piracy with harsh rules]

Sure I would encourage everyone to spread whatever information we can find about this.

Just think if it spreads to the news in gaming sites and CNET, EA won't be able to ignore it.

I doubt a cracked version will give you access to the Spore server so even if you bought the game you would lose the online features. Im sure there will be other ways around that but the point is that you shouldnt pay someone to restrict your freedom and integrity. Are you buying the game to please them or to please yourself?

Why don't we everyone just write to EA asking them to remove SecuROM?

HI ALL.
FIRST TIME POSTER HERE. SO DONT GO ALL FANBOY ON ME... (OR GIRL).
The way I see's things is that Pirates have been around well, since the days of pirates I suppose. No matter how many Ships the King put in the water to combat it, they still would not go away.
Today pirates are still arround and will continue to be around no matter what "security" is put in place. Personally I think the developer/publisher has a right to protect their property from all that is evil, but however I think copy protection really does suck.
It would not deter me from buying the game however as I think this game really will be the best thing since sliced sliced bread!!! Yes that good.
In the UK it is retailing at on average £29, God knows how many attempts at installing this game or howmany times you have to "authenticate" on line but seriously though ,how often do you replace or even upgrade your desktop? Heres is an idea... buy it after you've bought/upgraded your PC.... or buy your self a boat... if you catch my drift

PS.. why have EA/MAXIS NOT RESPONDED not responded to similar topics?

BYE.

I urge all members of this forum and the spore community to use this signature in a protest of the proposed three activations limit, including hardware changes, being imposed on the spore game.
