He's right you know, just wait until it overides your abilities as administrator, destroys all your software, hardware, and then you will try to uninstall it with spore, and you will realize it can't be uninstalled without some sort of third party installer

Well, people are reacting... we want to stop this anti-piracy lalalala that doesnt help the cause anyway... Its not OK that EA installs spyware, malware, rootkits or any of the like on my PC. I want to play Spore and I would buy Spore if it wasnt for this... lalalala... |

Now whilst i'm not advocating SecuROM, it is a rather silly piece of software to say the least, I thought i'd at least point out that the effects that you're saying here and she's talking about are nowhere NEAR as extreme as you're making them out to be. 1: SecuROM basically disables the administrators powers to try and remove itself, as if you could just go and delete it straight away, it wouldn't be much of a "piracy defence". Obviously it doesn't work as there are 3rd party uninstallers anyway. 2: There's no record of SecuROM interfering with Hard Drive operation. At all. SecuROM is known to prevent people making copies of games by disabling CD/DVD burners, and at times it can funk up unexpectedly but this is hardly a permanent hardware fault! 3: SecuROM has been known to interfere with AV programs and some game launching, but this isn't a 100% thing. It's also been known in some cases to cause severe damage to windows, but again, not 100% Admitted it'd be better if it wasn't there at all but installing SecuROM is not guaranteed to screw up all your software. So basically, what i'm saying here is the following: SecuROM, yes, it's bad. Yes, i'd rather not have it on my computer, but people seem to be blowing it's effects WAY out of proportion! And with that, I move on. Oh plus I run linux, so I just have windows around for gaming. Can't get mah private data if there ain't none to get (Speaking of which, just to point out one last thing, of course there could be a chance to abuse SecuROM, it's a rootkit! It's the type of thing which hackers have been using for years!)

No Thundercloud, it has been far from blown out of proportion I can assure you that. You are taking this all the wrong way, all of this is directed towards EA not you, you either support SecuROM or you don't, there is no grey area.

Please, if you want to war against SecuROM go ahead, but don't go spreading FUD. SecuROM is a disease yes but it's a disease like a cold. It's usually not the end of the world if you get one. Oh also for the record, Bioshock came with SecuROM didn't it? Well by that respect it seems i've been running SecuROM on my windows install for the good portion of a year now (I didn't know yes, but as i've said I run linux so it doesn't bother me) and my PC's still going strong. |

I do see where you are coming from Thundercloud, however something must be done, oh and as regard to bioshock does anyone remember the activation servers clogging up on the first day of release?

Yep, it's great fun. And by that I mean rootkits installed by hackers are installed for the express purpose so that they can get into your system. Ie: It connects to one of their PCs. An anonymous hacker. You can bet if SecuROM started accessing everyone's data and deleting stuff people would know about it. Fast.

And also I remember hearing about it but I got it a few weeks after it was released so it didn't bother me. Thinking about it though, Maxis best have their internet pipes open wide! I guess that's why there's a staggered release... actually that makes sense Just glad the UK gets a day all to itself. Hopefully they won't be as clogged!

And plus another thing is that nothing is untraceable in the internet on that level. Again, windows geeks who hate SecuROM would be constantly on the lookout for connections from EA/other people or data packets being transmitted somewhere. They'd be found out preeeeeetty damn fast. |

Oh, you lucky man. You missed this wonderful gem of the internet
Scumware: Bonzi Buddy & SaveNow Companion But you'll probably relive it through SecuROM
