point im trying to make is, i get the impression that some of you imply securom will destroy my PC.

fact is, theres a slight chance that with securom installed, there *might* be (a slight chance that there will be) some issues, with an even lesser chance of a catastrophic failure

I think that's a bit of deception on EA's part to be honest.

Yeah very true, I don't really think they care how they make it either. I mean if they have to deceive people to get it, then they might do, oh sorry correction they are going to do.

I agree there is the slight chance of it causing physical harm to your pc but there are a few cases popping up all over.

Fact of the matter is though is that activation issues WILL pop up. Not to mention you are letting a stupid gimmick of a protection dictate what can and cannot be run on your pc. Those of us who keep their pc up to date both software and driver wise will be the ones who end up suffering the most.

EA as the publisher, bioware said they would rather not have securom on mass effect but had no choice, same goes for maxis and whoever else ends up with securom all over their game.

I can only speak for myself, but I don't think it'll make a difference. That is not the point of it. To me, it is my way of making a protest. If I think something is wrong, I will speak out against it, regardless of whether I think I'll "win" or not. I'm not going to sit by and say nothing while EA takes away my rights as a consumer.

see posts like that don't help either. EA arent trying to decieve you or trick you into installing SecuROM. whats more likly is that when it came to pre-order, either securom hadnt been confirmed as being shipped as part of Spore, or even more likly, technical details of its anti-piracy methods simply weren't listed, as with any other game from any other game distributer.

SecuROM, whilst definately not the most ideal method out there, isnt an attempt by EA to cause harm to your PC or allow malicious behaviour in any way. portraying it as such is unfair to the poor guys who'll listen to your rants and will miss out on the game, in fear that EA are plotting to have their PC explode.

By all means, show your discontent with the evil that is SecuROM. But at least do it properly

What? considering spore just went gold last week and its been known that its going to use securom since before mass effect was launched how is securom not confirmed that far back?

Face it, EA does NOT want people to know you get 3 activations and need to request more from EA support, depending how you do this it might cost you quite a bit of money to do so. If you are so PRO securom and the people against it are getting to you why do you even come into the anti securom threads where you know what people are going to be saying? Further more what do you even mean "do it properly"?

no response to that part? I admit that back then SercuROM would have been in the works, but who knows if any other methods were being considered? if everything had been confirmed?

I'm pro-SecuROM? since when? the only thing that should have admin rights to anything on my computer is the admin (me), and reports of computer problems have me wary. Which is why i read these threads...in the same vain, if you dont like my comments, don't dignify them with a response.

what i am against is scare mongering...which is what's going on here. SecuROM will blow up your PC. EA are out to get us! All your credit card details will be lost! comments like that are massive exaggerations, and rather than actually protest against the use of SecuROM, trying to reasonably solve the problem, you're just scaring people away from it.

(edit: by you, im generalising...i mean a few anti-SecuROM people, not necessarily you personally)

and by do it properly, i mean be honest. In the grand scheme, a small number of users have had problems. theres a potential security risk...comments like that, instead of 'say goodbye to your PC'

I'm not trying to argue, just putting a point across. commence the flaming if you want

and for the record, i fully support what you're doing. If i were more security conscientious, or the game wasn't so bloody brilliant, i might be posting from your perspective...only without trying to make out that EA are conspiring against us :P

It's simple, SecuROM cant 'destroy' your pc, it cant take over your PC administor system, because it's illegal. It just seems that SecuROM has gotten bad press in the past, and some people here are overreacting simply, because they have been waiting for Spore for such a long time, they here about SecuROM, and dont want it to ruin their game.
