It did seem in the screen shot that it was only 9 creatures. (not including plants) However if this is true it is only for the space stage as the previous stages have far more creatures.

***edit***
i'm talking about 9 species btw... not 9 individuals. Which is probably what Ezarphant was getting at. i feel stupid now lol.

I thought the game did have a food chain. i am sure i have seen a video where WW was talking about creating new worlds through terraforming then he clicked something which brought up a card and he said it would tell you how the ecosystem is working, What is eating what and so on.

if you look at post 16 you'll see we've already covered this. However i think people we're thinking of a more active indepth food chain for the creature phase.

Sorry i should read threads better i just skimmed it really.

9 creatures? On one of the new E3 2008 vids on another thread the developer is playing the creature phase and somebody in the audience asks how many creature will there be on your planet? and he says lots, he then points out that there are seven species in sight.

I hope there is more than 9 species it will get a bit boring just killing the same species over and over again.

Also if there are nine species and you befriend all of them where do you go from there, just run around for a bit?

There will be more species in creature phase. But once you get to space phase only 9 species per planet i believe. I guess this is for 2 reasons, firstly the amount of ram/processor power it would use to have more creatures per planet as you fly round them would probably cause slow down. And secondly its because of the sim/micro management part of spore that your meant to be able to manage the ecosystems, so they had to set up some sort of easy way for you to do this. having a set number of species is an easy step for them to do.

I think the food chain would be cool if it built around how you behaved and the same for other creatures. It could be manipulated by the things you eat, or what eats you same for every other thing on the planet.

AFAIK, every regional food chain will consist of plantlife, one herbivore species and two carnivore species. Every planet should have a number of such food chains

in the space stage atleast its 3 plants, 2 herbivores and 1 carnivore. in a group, 3 groups per planet (though this coule be per region, can't tell for sure) (check post 16)
i have no idea about the creature stage though.

I think that's a great idea! If you ate a creature you would rise above them in the food chain! Maybe it could be online, and if you ate a creature somebody else created you would rise above thier creature in their game (of course, all herbivours would be at the bottom, like my spore, Peblimb, also my forum avatar)

Oddly, I think the Cell phase has got trophic levels worked out a lot more comprehensively than Creature phase, based on increases in size, etc.

From the pcgamer magazine screenshots it looks like the food chain constists of: 3 plant, 2 herbivores, 1 carnivore. There can be up to 3 food chains. I dnt know if this is per region or planet.

I think that the food chain is a really useful addition to the game. I think I'll use it quite a lot.
