I hope whoever decided to put securom on spore gets sacked, they've been proven to be incompetant by spore becoming the most pirated game of 2008.

EA branded every gamer a criminal by putting securom on spore, and now they suffer the consequences

Yupp.

its going to take some really massive work to even get a little respect back from this mess. and well, it do seem that securom is moore ment to stop the secon hand/used games marked than stopping piracy. while angering the public, and failing on stopping piracy.

The securom name/brand is totally written off, saying you are using securom on your product is like painting a giant target on yourself saying we don't care about the customer.

Look at fallout 3, used dvd check securom but still people skipped it/hit it/etc... Well... to be fair it was just as bad because I couldn't install fallout 3 at first because securom decided to decide I had violated it. Thank god bethesda have a brain and added a secret work around that if you run the setup.exe directly off the dvd and if you run fo3.exe from the main game directory securom isn't even used.

Why should people be forced into giving up their preferred platform to buy a version which is ultimately inferior in quality and flexibility wise? Not to mention console games cost atleast £10-£20 more.

Yep, this is EXACTLY why DRM is a bad thing, sleep walking into a rental that can expire at time/point, what does it leave you with in the meantime? Nothing but a coaster and 25 digit which means nothing.

Theres a topic on the EA steam forums.
Theres a topic in gamers retreat (PC) on these forums.
Theres a few questions about it in the burnout paradise forums here.

Theres more else where too, theyre just the ones i've seen.

No-one has had a reply from EAUK about when steam games are going to be available in the UK, because pretty much the rest of the EU already has EA games, as does the USA.

UK and japan are the only places that don't have them.

Rockstar used same copy protection on GTA IV. As a fool, I bought the game on the release day, actually pre-order it, then had all kinds of issues with DRM. Had to disable network, virtual drives, and stop using other programs I bought in order to play the game.

Then I admit, I found and download an illegal copy wich by passed all secur ROM and online authentications stuff. Game worked.

Am I illegal using a pirate copy? I own the game and can't run it, plus I have to disable various things. Pirate copy work without disable anything. And I wonder:
Why I bother to support their work and buy any game with DRM protection and have various of problems, while other people out there can play the game offline for FREE and with NO ISSUES.

I had FIFA 2009 too, and I read that use same protection. Never installed it to my PC, I gift it to my nephew.

I will never buy a DRM protected game again.

I still don't get the problem.
DRM has done nothing to my PC at all.
