Dammit, EA didnt put secuROM in the game to p*** us off, and if it comes in the sims 2, bioshock, and mass effect (3 games which i own) then ive never had ANY problems at all.

Half right about the sims 2. Previous versions of securom wheren't drm 3 activation like this BUT it did cause issues, HUGE issues. So much so EA had to make a statement for the people against it because it affected tons of honest consumers. Theres quite a lot places covering sims and securom just do a quick google. All sorts of stuff, so much so there is an anti securom post on the sims 3 board already.

I figure i'm up to my last activation on my creature creator anyway. My PC when I had a 32bit OS, Another PC and my PC now with x64 OS. Time bomb waiting to happen.

Mistercrull, I suggest you read most of this thread.

I'm thinking of a number between 1 and a thousand, whoever guesses it gets to buy the game, invoke the authentication limit and sue EA for BIG $$$ PRIZES!!!

No-one is saying they put it in the game to p*** us off. We all know why they did it... to try and stop the pirates. But the fact of the matter is that it does p*** us off (at least those of us who think we should be treated like loyal customers, rather than potential pirates and low-life criminals), and it does not stop pirates. So one big epic fail from EA.

I've had a game with SecuROM and SecuROM itself laid claim to the reason I had to buy a new £600 PC. It was incredible cruel, as if it were mocking me

I can't believe that EA has let all of this speculation about SecuROM and whether it is or isn't being removed from Spore rise, they haven't done much to remedy it have they?

I dont really think EA ever listens to what the customers have to say. Unless most of the customers werent gonna buy it, i don't think they would move a finger for us..

I don't believe there is any speculation about whether SecuROM will be removed from Spore or not. It won't, period. Noone from EA has even hinted that it would, so why would people speculate? And since the game has gone gold, it's too late, anyway. All we can hope for, is that it gives customers such a hard time, that EA is forced to remove it with a patch later on.

That is a shame, I feel sorry for Will, his game is getting ruined by EA.

Yeah. Well iv'e had securom on my computer for quite a while now without knowing but i have never had any problems with securom. Its not that bad. The issue and securom is as bad as you or anyone makes it out to be.

It varies, some people don't notice anything wrong, while other peoples PC's get messed up pretty bad so bad that they have had to buy a new PC.

It depends on your computer. SecuROM actually admitted to crashing my hard drive after it came with mass effect. Had to get a new pc

I also have had securom on my pc for a while and only noticed a problem when the dvd drive started to go wrong. After the drive was replaced I never noticed any problems.

I don't think securom alone is a reason to stop me buying the game.

However, the 3 activation limit is, so for that reason alone it is unlikely I will purchase Spore.

Will this affect my decision to buy other EA product?
Probably. I would have upgraded to the latest XBox versions of PGA, FIFA, etc. but I will now more than likely spend my money elsewhere.

Do I think EA care or give a damn about losing me as a customer?

No. Of course they don't.

@ dannnnnnnnnnny
That and if you've had it on for "quite a while" then it is not the same securom as the one that is coming with spore. This new one is much, much worse.

I dont think SecuROM really uses a criteria for which pc's it crashes, it depends on its mood. From what I've heard some people have had no issues, others have lost personal information, and I know personally how adept it is at ruining a pc

I really am going to fear for the safety of my hardware when I install Spore, and SecuROM with it no doubt.

Im not for securom at all, i hate it tbh if its making people have to buy new computers. If i had to buy a new computer because of EA i wouldn't buy any of their games. And is this version much much worse than previous securom versions?

I can't say that I've had any hardware damaged when I had SecuROM on my PC. But I knew that it wasn't functioning properly. It seemed much slower and well the PC just wasn't as productive as usual.

Im also in serious doubt whether or not to buy Spore with Securom on it and all but what I don't get is how it could actually damage a hardware component. I mean, its software itself so aside from some kind of weird overheating problem that fries your hardware...I don't get how else it could damage your pc (but then again my knowledge about how a pc works isn't that great )
