So am I but it at least shows that SOMEONE in EA cares, if only he could get it higher, I think that EA have changed CEO's recently which might be a reason for the delayed response.

A) Going gold means that the game is ready for being put on disk. The game just needs to be written to disks that needs to be packed with games manuals and all that.

B) Good news! =)

Splendid! Yay EA Omni! They will build statues of you around the world if EA backs down on this (note: I have no idea who 'they' are, but trust me, statues are coming )

Of course, I would still like more of a fuss being made in the gaming press or other media - EA is not the only publisher using SecuROM, and it would be nice if more people were aware of it.

EA Omni, I will most definitely remember that name, just in case EA have removed it from the game.

Hi,

That really depends on what USB device are you referring to. If you use a USB external hard drive to install the game, most likely when you disconnect, removed or make changes to the drive, this could trigger an activation. If you are referring to a USB printer or controller, this should not cause any issue.

I hope that the information I have given will be of service with you.

Should you require further assistance about this or any Electronic Arts games in the future please visit our website and review our extensive Self Help knowledgebase (http://electronicarts.co.uk/support).

Hey ive been reading this thread for a good hour or two and i have to say before i came on this thread, my mind was made up i was going to buy Spore, regardless of cost. But now i am in two minds...

Looking at this forum, i have noticed that it is 19 pages of constant ranting and information about spore. It could be reasoned, as someone mentioned prior to this post, that it is a publicity stunt thought up by a PR Guru at EA. Also the fact that it took 19 pages before a moderator took notice suggest that EA have been waiting for the opportune moment, building up this immense amount of tension, anger and pressure, to make it look so much brighter when they change something for the better.

However, nothing has officially been said about this so these are just possibilities NOT facts. Do not get me wrong, i am outraged by this Securom scandal and i am so glad that an EA member has decided to try and do something about it, and i too will only buy this game if either:
a) They make SIGNIFICANT changes to the system (Judging from what i've
seen the afore mentioned "Steam" sounds sooo much better as i MUST have control over my computer at all times)
b)They Scrap Securom all together for Spore and future titles as this software ,if it falls into the wrong hands, could be used to gain alot of personal information, and judging by Britains history, it probably will happen.

It also seems to me, that people who have seen the infamous spore video featuring the girl who explains the problems with securom, have taken her word as 100% will happen nothing you can do about it. Alas, i believe this is not the case as consistantly throughout there are keywords which suggest its not a definate, sure-fire thing: "Can" ."Could". However, i may have been wrong and slightly judgemental which i definately do not do on purpose and for which case i apologise.

To conclude;
Spore is possibly the greatest game i have ever seen and i have wanted it since i first read about it in about 2005, and if they do remove SECUrom i will probably be the happiest i have ever been if not... then maybe we should play a game of "auto-mail" with EA: Send them the same message over and over and over again asking them to get rid of it, from 100's of different addresses... see how they like it as a last resort of course...

Hows that for a first post

EDIT: I have signed the petition as well under 'Finch'

I think that our protest can not have gone unnoticed... Some gamer site or paper must have been on this forum, no? And people have been writing them... The games media must surely know about the issues people are having. If they don't then I think I would blame media for not "doing something"...

It says if you use an external USB drive to install the game, but it doesn't mention what happens if you have a USB drive as D: and an internal drive as C:, install the game on C: and unplug D:

If this triggers an authentication it raises questions about Ipods, MP3 players, Digital Cameras and other devices that the PC see as a removable storage device.

Default SecuROM - The bottom line

SecuROM....Never had so much fuss over a piece of software.

I know theoreticly it could be used to steal personal infomation, but so could any piece of software that connects to the internet and has access to admin scripts.

I wont go into details.

But, im fine with SecuROM, im fine with 3 activations, obviously, id rather not, but its not worth missing out SpOrE for. So time to get rid of the red sig.

No lectures. k, thx.

Second of all i agree, the media should have been doing this before the people of this site should have done. I'm also very impressed by the amount of people who have banded together, and the plethora of different protest techniques is very good.

I found some of it rather repetitive but thats what makes the point stick in ones mind.

I have to say you have all made a lot of progress in such a short time, and for that i congratulate you, but there is still a fair way to go.

More extreme protest needs to be done, such as the forum member who ripped up the previous EA games with secuRom. You should E-mail that to EA. Who knows, it could be a saving grace...

Well to be fair it is your choice, noone is forcing you not to buy it, admittedly there is alot of biased talk and some harsh words, but thats protest for you...

Still its your decision, no offence, but why would i care none of my business

That would be crazy! But not impossible... I suppose noone really knows what the programmers of SecuROM really have in store for those who buy the game.

I thought technology was supposed to make life easier... now we are inhibited in a GAME? where next?! in twenty years time it wouldnt surprise me if that TV mentioned earlier actually existed!
Then where next from there; if you move house 3 times you have to go on a ventilator? might sound sick but who knows?!

The media should spread the word about SecuROM and inform people of what games publishers are doing in the name of anti-piracy. Are we going to have to start our own newspaper to get people to hear about this? No, I think not! The media should recognice this matter... I think this should count as being part of a democracy to have access to the press... But hopefully they are just taking some time digging thru all our posts and writing an article about it...

Anyway, Im also impressed of all the good people here who are not afraid to stand up for their rights as consumers!

Hear! Hear!

although i think the best we can hope for is a respected gamers mag. Unless trading standards come down hard upon this invasion of privacy, which last time i checked was against the law, i doubt there will be much in the national papers of
Britain and the U.S at least.

But its not like we're alone, almost every game site has a thread to do with this abuse. Even amazon.co.uk had a post saying it was an outrage. EA even wiped all reviews that came out on amazon i think.. although i wouldnt take my word for it i would check the site. Ha! Amazon even lowered the price i think its not even out yet...

Curious...

Hmm yeah... I also saw an online store lower the price on Spore... it was cdon.com they lowered the price and gave you a discount on buying two dvd movies... hehe... So maybe we are actually making progress...

I really feel sad for Will Wright and his team... I dont think that he actually wanted to mess with the customers... I think its some evil mind at EA that is to blame for this.
