Default Petition: No SECUROM / 3 Activations!

I know I'm probably going to get slapped by sooo many moderators for this, but tough, this is for the good of the community.

The petition is as follows:

"EA / Maxis should remove the 3 Activation Limit on their video game release, "SPORE".

This is an unnecessary step towards piracy. Hackers who crack these games illegally are going to always find ways around such protection. It has been done before, and it certainly isn't showing any signs of stopping.

Users who legitimately buy their games should NOT have to be limited by 3 installations. It is NOT their fault that the illeagal downloading community is causing damage to the gaming industry, and we shouldn't suffer for this. This is an offense to our trust in EA, and should not be tolerated."

I want to be able to play the game in a decade's time for nostalgia purposes, and not have to be faced with DRM failing me.

Also, for EAs own good I recommend it. The ratings for Spore on Amazon.com are terrible purely because of the DRM, and elsewhere, the game is getting bashed because of the DRM. The game's already been leaked zero hour with the DRM stripped, and EA need to act fast to preserve what hope they have left. If they choose to ignore it all, they'll lose an enormous chunk of the market. If they tackle the torrent sites, they'll end up doing a Metallica and seeing a whopping drop in PR. Their only real option to satisfy shareholders, consumers and the profits alike is to remove the draconian SecuROM from Spore.

This game was leaked to the torrent sites on 2nd of september, release date was 4/5 september, and according to comments on torrent sites the secuROM has been removed!

once again EA are punishing all of us people for actually going out and BUYING there game, i paid £35.99 for Spore i could have easly got this from torrents and had no secuROM lalalala on my computer.

i see my purchase as a payment to will wrights brilliance only.

this is just rediculous, even by upgrading my graphics card/other hardware i will use up one of my activations. and with the amount of viruses floating round on the net if i have to format my hard drive and re-install spore, there goes another activation. if i knew about this before buying the game i would never have bought it

I'm very very sick and tired of games with overzealous copy protection. Time and time again it has been shown that if you can execute code at any given time, you can crack it by the same mechanism in which it allows you to play it. Software vendors do nothing but anger paying customers with the hassle we have to go through due to their copy protections. It pushes honest paying customers closer to not being paying customers. Spore will be pirated as much as the next game, even if that next game has no copy protection whatsoever, EA, think of your customers, you're spending MORE money on copy protection that WILL be broken than you are on other things that could end up making you more money in the end.

/signed. SecuROM has had no effect whatsoever and has only proved to be a hindrance to paying customers.

The pirate version is already SecuROM free, so why punish customers?

"Software licenses" are bull****. Either you SELL me a copy, or you let me RENT it. Don't try to force a middle way onto honest customers under the cloak of "fighting piracy".

Please stop this. People will always pirate software, stop punishing people who buy your software. If a game is good then people will buy it, people who will not buy it will always find ways around any 'security'

I vote for no DRM, please trust the 99% who actually pay for things!

The problem is that most people will likely just turn to piracy anyway once their three activations are over.
