All this is going to do is push people into downloading the pirated copies as they at least don't have to worry about the activation issues

SecuROM shouldn't exist.

The game was leaked and cracked pre-release. What good did SecuROM do?

I've even heard that cracked versions can support online play!

Games will always be cracked. People who want to pirate games will pirate games. People who believe in supporting game developers will pay for games.

Here's a tip, EA: give your customers quality products and adequate support. Give your customers something -worth paying for-.

I've long believed in supporting developers. But adding SecuROM to a game just makes me want to pirate it instead.

Wake up.

I, as many, believe in -paying for quality-, not for being treated like criminal sheep.

3% want to keep it which prove drm has nothing to do with benefit of so called legit buyers, its down to greed of companies imo as it doesnt stop piracy so that is the only possible use for it to sate greed

btw this is 100% the last securom/drm game I buy and the last EA game I buy regardless, the companies just see statements like this as ficticous though and still proceed with their dillusional securom assumptions until everyone stops supporting this stupidity , I also tried to avoid DRM games and did my part in that respect but Im actually prepared to do without all together now, and as long as us stupid people support this rubbish its only set to get worse. Sure I admit it I was stupid to buy a drm game but seriously Spore has opened my eyes to DRM so I may have been stupid this time but never again, however I doubt in reality many will have that mentality so go keep getting ripped off but thats not for me any more Im afraid

I'll buy Will Wright products regardless, but securom has PROVEN itself to
1. do nothing to prevent hackers, who had the title cracked before american audiences could even buy the thing in stores and
2. causes terrible bug problems, evasive installs, compatibility issues, etc, etc, etc.

Why would they POSSIBLY think this is a good idea? It didn't stop the hackers for one bloody second, punishes the actual customers, AND gives them so much terrible press! I know EA is rife with idiotic decisions but this is way above and beyond the norm.

EDIT: Oh, and I heard the pirated copies actually work. Maybe I should return this worthless hunk of plastic on my desk which isn't even stable enough to work as a coaster, and torrent the damned thing.

All games use some sort of protection. WoW, Crysis, Call of Duty 4, and several other popular games use SecuROM. And it's actually Sony you should blame. They own SecuROM.

They are not the ones who put it into this game

I blame the person who shoots people, not a weapon manufacturer

But why should I? It's an unnecessary hassle. Downright lalalalalalaed, especially since it has done nothing but annoy the faithful PAYING customers, and not the hackers.

My now 8-year-old daughter and I signed up for the Spore newsletter in October 2006. We've been waiting excitedly for Spore ever since.

And we'll continue to wait excitedly until this draconian DRM is removed from the product before I buy it.

I have shelves laden with hundreds of games that I've bought. I've never pirated a game, and I never will. Yet I'm the one insulted, inconvenienced and restricted by the DRM - it will cause the pirates about a day's head-scratching before they overcome it.

Three installations would be gone in 6 months in my house as my PCs are frequently changed, upgraded, OSes reinstalled, etc. Games are uninstalled and reinstalled as they go in and out of favour with my children. I don't want to have to come begging to be allowed to reinstall a game that I've paid for.

And it's not just that I don't want to be treated this way, I'm more concerned that by saying and doing nothing, this will, by acquiescence, become the industry norm.

signed, i hate securom... i probably have to install my game many times, i have a acer aspire 5670 with a ATI mobility radeon x1600 graphics card, and because of that, creatures often disappears(<-spelled wrong?) in cut-scenes, i cant have high-quality in the game, i can not see the map, i can only see some blurry stripes... and if the read me file is correct, my whole computer is made from a car stereo and some elephant-poo...

SecuROM is a piece of useless rubbish that will always get broken, and people will then turn to piracy. Buy the games to support the devs, but dont use it? Is this what EA wants us to do?

The company that created SecuROM deserves to be killed as it causes more problems for people, than it is worth, and even then we have to tell people try a NO-CD thing and see if it works. They reports it does. We blame the secuROM security! Simple, get rid of the thing creating the problem, or atleast finda better alternative!

I've uninstalled Spore simply because I believe its a poor game and is not what I was expecting. It's taken me 2 hours to (try) and get rid of Securom as well, although I'm sure there are still bits of it hiding in the background.

What's making me even more angry is now my DVD burner seems to be playing up, and from looking at the forums this seems to be because of Securom. **** this, This is the last EA game I'm even going to buy.

I apologize for NOT signing this. I believe that EA should know how to satisfy their clients, better than we do, so it is also their own decision how to treat their clients. But I’d like to inform EA that for me, it is as simple as follows:

Apart from Spore, I will NEVER AGAIN buy any EA game including this kind of "security protection". I just cancelled my pre-order of Red Alert 3, the game I’ve been waiting 10 years to come out!!! (BTW: Not to BUY doesn’t mean not to PLAY.)

Well done, EA management, pirates downloaded Spore before release date and we as your clients will not pay you anymore. This is the worst product launch I’ve ever heard of.

Yo ho.

That would have been the Starforce. Your disc drive is absolutely capable of shattering CD and DVD-Roms, it mainly happens to old drives but sometimes the wrong drivers in the wrong drive will cause it.

My brother wanted to try the game in offline mode, and we have four computers spread over two homes. We installed the game on both in parent A's house, and moved to parent B on the second day of owning the game.

Suffice it to say that he had to go out and buy another copy just to play the damn game.

I also wish to install it on my laptop, but I refuse to do so out of fear of SecuROM trapping: if it's not good enough on the laptop, I've wasted a "charge".
