The editors are great. It's good that you can design and buid your own buildings, vehicles etc.

It's interesting how there is only one page of this but loads of "What don't you like about spore?" and various other threads.

Spore is a retake on , but certainly not a remake of, arguablly the all-time classic computer game, Elite.

The basic gameplay is Elite from a 3rd person perspective.

I'm amazed at how many people say "I enjoy Spore up until the space stage". The space stage is when Spore finally becomes a proper computer game; rather than a series of mini-games.

I didn't expect that this was what Spore would be, but have no complaints. I was always puzzled how under-represented the space exploration genre was.

I've played Space Rangers and the few other games of this ilk that exist*. Spore is the best game of it's type.

*That's a lie, I've only played Space Rangers. That's because so few other comparable games do exist.

---

That was the computer game, not the computer toy.

The creator tools and AI aspects elevate the mini-games of Spore far above any freeware title - or atleast above any that could hope to appeal to a wide audience.

---

A mass market product that could aquire a minority cult status (except it won't, because it's so mass market).

One thing I really like about Spore is looking back through the timeline when you're on the verge of omnipotence and going. "Oh, right. I was that cell-thing once."

That's probably the big moment of the game, to be honest. To stand at the end and look back.

I like the tribal stage as it takes just the right length of time to complete and is great stage with many different options. Downloading non-maxis content on my PC is brilliant and I end up having less maxis creations than those of other people.

Great game!

Default To start at the start

I love the cell stage its cutesy n fun to play as a 40 year old MMO and FPS gamer I did not think Spore was going to appeal to me per se < got it for the lil one more than anything else > But after playing through it a couple of times I really do like it.

The cell stage is the starting block its bright and colourful. I just wish this stage lasted longer with more to do in it and more options to choose that affect the outcome for your eventual land critter. The basic mechanic of eat or be eaten works very well, at first glance the 2D viewpoint makes it look like theres no terrain as such but you can use the bubbles as walls inbetween your cell and other more predatory ones. You can also use the faster currents for a quicker getaway which is cool too. And you can use the larger food blobs as blocking aids when enemys come nearby.

I would have liked 3 or 4 different cell types like the one WW had in 05 or 06 with a skeletal structure and basic limbs. The addition of these in the future will make the cell stage much more enjoyable for most players I would think offering more options for progression. Make it so our basic cell has to do missions to unlock these other cell types and you add more longevity to that stage, add a few more mission types for cells to gather X type of cell body parts to unlock parts we can use and add missions to retrieve dye, sulphur, salt, mineral samples and we have more longevity to the stage again.

So in short yes I like the cell stage.

what I like about spore is that finally something graphical caught my attention.
always loved the sims, but this is wow.

I even said wow when i firsted played the game. and it makes me wanna keep play it.

also that it can get the most creative side out of you, wether or not you feel creative, every creature you make, is out of your creativity, so, if you think you are not creative, it's wrong, because you did something that maybe nobody else would ever think of doing.

and the fact that there's so much to discover that nothing might ever be the same again that you find, is also really awesome.

I don't know, I am just really amazed by the game. really alot

The editors are amazing. Once Space Stage deposited the guano all over me (see other threads) I really got into making buildings and things. Did a whole Esperanto themed Sporecast.

So yeah, the Lego and Plasticine are powerful and amazing. And the fact that you get random people saying how great they thought your stuff is. I really got a kick out of my first comment. :-)

it looks graphically impressive, the cell and creature stage are excelent, but thats where it all ends, has no longevity whatsoever.

and yes the editors were well designed.

big disappointment.

I've been whining in so many threads and comparing this sticky to the "things you dislike" sticky makes me feel a bit bad. I only ***** about Spore because I *like* it and REALLY want to see it improved. So, here's the things I really like:

Cell Stage: Maybe it's just the geek in me who likes simple Flash Games ( like Neopets ) but I find the Cell Stage good fun. I wish there were more variety in the creatures though, but still, it's a nice and relaxing game. I also wish there was a timer ( can use a clock, but anyway ) so that I could amuse myself by trying to beat the Cell Stage faster and faster :]

Creature Stage: It's fun. Collecting and trying to complete the parts is great and learning to use abilities to their best extend is great. Also trying to find optimal setups while making a creature you find appealing is fun. Swimming out in the sea and getting a surprise was hilarious too, not to mention Epic Creatures. Killing one was great even though it took me like an hour of VERY intensive playing. I just wish that besides the Achievement, there would be some more very big reward for it. I expected to see some talk about it in later stages too.
There's some fun details too, like the ability to throw stuff at things to annoy them ( kinda wish I could also just give them to them ).
Obviously, the actual creature creation is most fun. So many options and amaizing graphical effects, with such incredible functionality with animations and such.

Tribal Stage: I like the fact that creatures in your pack ( that aren't same species ) become your pets from Creature Stage. The music game, when you're trying to makes allies out of another tribe is fun too, though I wilalalala was more complex.

Civilization Stage: I like games of this type in general and I like the fact that you can take alot of different approaches to it ( religious, economic, military ). At this point you can use some pretty fun clothing articles too to make your creature look funnier ( or whatever your preference is ).
Also, being able to design the buildings and veichles is fun, though I wish that I could save a Color Scheme ( I tend to try to match creatures, buildings and veichles with similiar colors ).
The possibility to compose Anthems is fun too. I'd appriciate it more if I was the musical type of person though, but that's just me. I think it's brilliant that the option is available.

Space Stage: Being able to design a planet exactly the way you want ( besides being able to create plants ) is great. Sad thing is that there is barely time to do so. But I do like my pink and overly cute planets. Also, exploration is GREAT. I'm really impressed with the amount of... well... STUFF there is in the Galaxy. I just wish I could have some sort of an in-game map that updates as I make discoveries ( like Wormholes and where they lead to... trying to keep up with them on a piece of paper is hopeless ). It's also very beautiful to look at.
Generally, I like all the aspects, be it trade, terraforming, exploration or war that Space Stage has to offer. The problem just is that I can't chose to focus on any of those things because I have to be doing everything at once.

The editors are great, the whole online implementation is brilliant. I love looking through people's creations. I love the way the world is populated with this stuff and you never know what you're going to come across. I also like the fact I can pick and choose if I wish.. so I could, say, decide to only have historical creatures, etc.

I've always liked games where I can explore, and I like games where I can come across AI doing it's own thing. The creature stage is great for this. Even after I've finished getting the DNA I need I usually hang around longer watching the other creatures interacting and throwing sticks at each other while I carry on exploring. The creature stage could definitely be improved but this is the thread for what I like about Spore so I won't go into it here.

The one game/sim I've always been looking for is one where I could explore stars and planets (generally peacefully, rather than star wars style) Spore has an amazing galaxy full of interesting stuff to explore. Again, being online you never know what type of creature you'll come across on a planet. Planets in the Civ stage can be seen sending their units off to war. The space stage really blows me away for it's scope and diversity. Unfortunately 1 word can sum up my current frustrations with it 'pirates'

Overall, I like a lot of things in Spore. It's not as deep in some stages as I'd hoped, but it's still got a lot going for it imo.

I LOVE the Cell and Space stages. The cell stage is fun and I like that way you can actually see the world around you change as you grow and get closer to the shore. I always feel guilty killing those first cells you meet as a predator too - the ones with the line of eyes. I think it's the way they squeel as they run away

The Space stage just keeps me engrossed, and there's plenty of options. Expanding your empire, war, terraforming, exploring, buying tools, trading, doing missions, meeting alien races, genetic engineering, the list goes on.

I love the creators and the endless possibilities they bring. The animation with the creature creators is spot on too.

I like the way every time you turn on the game you see something new thanks to the content downloads.

And finally, I like the concept of evolving a species from a single cell to a massive spacefaring empire, and the way you intelligently design them all the way.

I recently discovered the joy of the monolith.

Initially I wondered what was the point in creating competition, but after I uplifted my first species and befriended them I want to do it again.

I'm going to try a custom tweaked species and just use them on the planet to ensure sentience, it will be fun to have an alliance with my own creation.

I love some things in the space stage, for example, the 3-d-ness of the stars The progressiveness off things, the achievements and badges are good as i like statistics like that. And also your not the most advanced culture around which is good

I love the creature stage. Its just amazing to how things happen.

the very first time I played, i was there and all of sudden the screen glowed orange, i was suprised, so I looked up, zoomed out and saw a pinkish planet whiz past me and eclipse the sun, I was like whoah! seriously!

then a few hours later, my girlfriend and I are destroying every single other nest and we come upon this huge monster who was one of my creations, my Gf freaked out lol!

To add sugar, a spaceship appeared (which of course I later found out to be the grox - can never forget that design) and was hovering around observing as I fought with other creatures and stuff. I mean awesome.

Then i went to space and I finally put a colony on that pinkish planet that casued the eclipse. How awesome is that.

I also love teraforming, its makes me feel supreme and I love the fact you can beam yourself down to planet.

I did that once and had some tribal guys attack my hologram with spears lol! I was gonna give them a monolith to advance, but I saw thier savagery and decided that they weren't fit to join the galactic community. Therefore their species was wiped out. The power of god in my hands... I LOVE IT!

oh yeah i love the little details in the game like if you beam a sentient being down into a hospitable planet, he will start to freeze then make fire, if carnvores are around, they devore him and stuff like that lol!

Since it doesn't get much spotlight, I'll just praise the tribal stage a bit. It's fun and peaceful, you still interact with animals, you can bring food to another tribe and have parties, all in all, it's very nice. I just wish there's more useless but fun things to do in there

Agreed. I love the Tribal Stage, but I really wish there was more to it!

My favourite thing though is the Creature Creator. I can sit hours upon hours just going nuts with what I can create.

The creature phase, I mean, theprinciple of being able to take your lovable little critter you've developed and explore and interact. That is awesome and is immensely missed in the space phase, when it's also something that could bring out so much in the space phase.

I'd buy an expansion pack just for the ability to get down there on foot and interact creature-phase style, in the space phase. (And not in a clunky, zero interactivity hologram way)

I like the fact that you get to choose how to enjoy it, like on Fable, GTA and the Sims, where you can do random things for fun, like making wildlife sanctuaries, throwing things around, painting planets, etc. I think that people who don't like the game, don't like it becuase they are used to follwing the guidelines.

Also, the reason there are loads of bad feedback threads, is becuase people like to have a rant about things more than people want to say what they like about it.

Default I like about spore ...

... that it exists

... the wonderful concept of being able to modify almost any part of the in-game galaxy (starting with the cells)

... the long time motivation (medals etc)

... the extremely cool terraforming implementation !!

... the colorful happy graphics !!! - finally a game that doesn't look like armageddon has already happened

... the smooth music, to which one can still listen after the 10th hour of non-stop-gaming

... that the online features of the game are fully integrated inside the program's UI

... the UI in general - very simple to handle but powerful enough to provide access to all features

... that I can play without being forced to put the DVD into the drive

... that I can play without established internet connection

... that Full HD resolution is properly supported

... that the graphics look very good (especially water and sunsets on planets!)

... that terraforming a planet changes the way the planet looks (ice turning to water, raising water mark etc)

... that the dynamically generated / integrated content is so seamless integrated in the game (communication messages with empire names, animations with designed creatures working properly - especially the "on land going" one)

... probably more, but I cannot remember it right now

I do think the space stage has loads of potential, and I could really grow to love it, but...

...trying to build/run an empire populated entirely with helpless lalalalalalas who are apparently capable of building only ONE effective ship, whilst playing "whack-a-mole" with invaders every five minutes, totally spoils the immersion.

Ten pages of Dislikes to two pages of Likes is not how it should be, and I really hope they fix it.

I really like the representation of the galaxy, how you seamlessly zoom out from a single star out to see the entire galaxy.

Default epic fun

What i love about Spore is that its like 5 games for the price of one. I have only just finished the cell stage with my first creation, Brion the Pixelpod.

Check out my HookedonSpore Page below.

Sporetastic » aurora

I am looking forward to the next stage and to creating more creatures, vehicles, buildings etc.

Just bought the Prima Game Guide too to give me a little more information.

I'm just crazy for this game.
