Create-a-skater is AWFULL! The whole lay out is bad... You click on t-shirts and it's just a random load of t-shirts. What happened to searching by a brand? There's not enough stuff to choose from, your skater just sits on a sofa... Yeah it looks nice but you can't see how stuff looks on.
All in all, there's not enough of anything in the create-a-skater section, big step back from skate 1 imo. Gameplay is... well, the same. Bar a few new tricks it feels the same. Walking is a shambles! Also the stuff you can move is paper light. Bump into it and you have to reset it to how you had it. Missions are bad. Do this, do that. More of the same from the first one. Except this time they are more infuriating than ever. There's also a feel of the Hawk about this one... Crowns... Beer hats. The voices of the skaters is BAD! They're skaters not voice actors, and also come of as arrogant Americans with some of the stuff they spout out. Menus are worse imo. I liked the backpack in the first one and also the map, again, feels like a step back. On a plus I like New San Van better than the old one. Bits do still feel like the cramed about 500 rails, ledges and sets in to a 10m x 10m little spot. All in all it's ok... I'd give it 7.1/10 I'd give skate 1 a 9.3/10 Apart from the new tricks and some new replay options the whole thing feels like a big step back imo. |

Probably like most people i did find a lot of the challenges frustratingly hard to the point i had violent verbal outbursts at my tv and the occasional headbutt of the controller but all in all a very impressive game and good fun even if you spend an hour bailing off the dam lol

skate 2 is absolute amazing,it has been everything i wanted in the game and more, the only downside to the game is the slow movement when you get of your board, that couldve been smoother but besides that it is one of the best ea games around for along time.

The demo didn't do this game justice. If i wouldn't have watched the "Game Night with Skate" video on 1up.com i wouldn't have bought this game. The demo fails to show you what makes this game so good. The freedom!
Once your in an open cityscape and see the sun set in the distance, the game looks very beautiful and organic. If you liked the last game, i think you'll love Skate 2. The way your character moves and your transitioning between different trick sequences feels a lot more fluent this time around. There must be some type of auto correction system that helps you land a grind or drop into a half pipe easier, because i can pull the perfect line off with far grater ease that i ever could in the first game. The ability to get of your board adds so much to this game and makes the world feel like one big stale park, because it makes getting to a potential 'trick spot' much easier. The missions/challenges seem more laid-back and less frustrating than last time but i haven't been playing much of the career. Multi-player is were it's at! I'm really impressed with the improvement this game has made to multi-player. The last game's MP stuttered and lagged and didn't do the whole free skate thing very well. Set up like Burnout Paradise online, with multiple challenges and events for every location, Skate 2 is a crisp, smooth and fun experience online. The areas are much larger and give you and your friends much more freedom to explore and find good 'trick spots'. My friends and i are currently trying to make group skate video's online. We come up with lines and routines that coincide and overlap with each other then one of ulalalalas the 'save replay' button and later edits the footage and uploads it to the EA servers for all to see. My only criticism is the camera angle. It's had some tweaks along the line but as with the first game, i would have liked the choice of another camera angle option that lets you see ahead of you a bit better. For the next game i want to be able to free roam around the whole city with at least 2 of my friends whilst still having the spot creator available and some vehicle traffic on the roads (tall order?). A game mode were game mode that makes it easier for me and my friends to create videos would also be good. Maybe a player could carry a video camera or set up tripods to record footage. One you've made a video you could then send it to you friends or just up load it. With games like Skate 2, Mirrors Edge and Dead Space offering so much to the hardcore games market, my faith is now officially restored in Electronic Arts. I only hope that they concentrate and help developers that make games like these in the future. NOW, give the green light on a new Road Rash, EA, and I'll die a happy gamer.

I already had the demo when it came out. I'm actually not too fussy about the create a skater and choosing clothes to wear.Maybe its because i did not play Skate, only played the demo.Based on my exploration of the demo, the spots look nice but you only have 6-8 mins to play. You can actually explore more of skate 2 in the party play modes where just skip the timing for hall of meat and own the spot, and explore the other places with the 15 seconds you have.I just want to know if it is worth paying for and the longevity of the game.

I have the PS3 version of Skate 2. (Playing it on a brand new 80g machine)
I'm really disappointed - the frame rate is a jerky, shuddering mess. It's actually worse than the demo. Some locations in the game don't suffer that badly, but there seems to be something wrong with the designated cache size or something because in the more built up/detailed spots the game is nigh on unplayable.. even Slappy's park! It fluctuates from (an estimated) 15fps to 60fps.. which actually effects the ability to play the game as it was intended. I'm not the only one who's got this problem, but bizarrely some Playstation 3 owners are saying they aren't having any frame rate drops at all. No one has established what the variables are, and nobody from EA or Black Box has commented on the issue. Most PS3 purchasers of the game just want some information - I think as consumers we'd appreciate acknowledgement. The game cost me 40 of my hard-earned £'s, so a patch doesn't seem like a really big ask. The annoying thing is that when the game is running smoothly (in the more sparse spots), it's really really fun to play. I've skateboarded for over 10 years and have been playing video games for almost 20, so I know a potentially great game when I play it. I am just hoping that EA shows some compassion and respect for its valued customers and can let us know what is going to be done. |

I'm loving it on the whole....but they added way to much too quickly. The movable objects are a joke, they move all the time (even though you can reset them when you return to your marker) , they don't act like the real items (eg vert ramps... i can fly over the top, grind every single side, get my trucks caught on the lip but for some unknown reason they don't let you get more then 1 foot of air) they have added way to many tricks. As mentioned by other people the create a skater sucks, and they took out nifty bits on the reply editor and made it annoying to use. I loved skate, but this game keeps letting me down with glitches and buggy items. Hopefully with some patches they may get fixed...until then its staying in its box.

I stumbled on this thread by chance trying to find random information about the game. After reading all of your posts it is really hard for me to believe that any of you played the first game. Maybe it is that I haven't beaten it yet, but this is what I have found so far.
First, and the biggest letdown of Skate 2, is the fact that you can't record anywhere. I'm not talking about your replays, I'm talking the progression of the game. I loved the fact that in Skate you could get a challenge and do it anywhere. If you felt that doing 2 flip tricks a manual and a grab was easy to do outside the hospital then you skated that spot until you got it. It was more realistic and a way better way to play the game. I hate having to go to a specific spot in order to progress. Second, is the fact that the camera feels like it was taken straight out of Need for Speed, like the EA team got lazy and just took the car out of the game and put in a skater model with a San Vanelona background. It is lalalala and the game sucks now because of it. Third, and this might be connected to the fact that I am not taping every trick and sending it off to sponsors, I am already a pro going into the game. I find this terrible because if I am a pro then why am I doing the same **** to get my spotlight back. Why am I not going into huge comps with pros and working my way back into the x-games that way? Why am I stuck being a pro that still feels like a noob back in the skating scene? If a pro went to jail, when he got out he would be welcomed back by all of his pro friends and they would all be helping him get back in the scene. Not just some scrub with a camera that somehow knows the pros better than you do. Last but not least, this hall of meat bull ****. Before it was cool to have a few hall of meat challenges, now if feels like you guys are just catering to the 10 year olds that play the game just to smash balls. I mean there is no way I am going to spend hours and hours making my guy smash his head so I can get an achievement. In the original it just happened if you played, in this game it feels forced. So in review, I haven't been stuck yet in the game, it seems like easy mode. The ability to do your filming anywhere was HUGE in the first game and really allowed you to find spots and skate them for hours and really explore the full game. So please put in some free DL content that allows us to do that. (oh wait you all got laid off at Black Box, guess that won't be happening) If you make a Skate 3, give me a call, I will be able to help you guys get back to your roots and maybe even give you some pointers on how to make a great skate same again. Tony Hawk is coming out with a whole new image for his skate games, and while I don't have much faith in it, I think it will be better that this Skate 2 bull ****. Edit:Oh and if you are going to allow me to be able to move stuff around, let me lift it up to put it on a ledge, or down a set of stairs. I'm not asking to be superman, but let me lift one side of a table and angle it on a ledge. Last edited by xoxSpid3yxox; 04-02-2009 at 08:02 AM.. |

I just had the chance to rent Skate 2 today.Played for a solid 3 hours.
Firstly, I liked the beginning and how they built up the story. The parks are nice, the graphics are good and although walking has not still been fixed, its fine for me. A problem i encountered was on the challenges.Sometimes they got more irritating then exciting. I felt like quitting the game when i kept losing some races and then the loading times made it worse. It takes too long to move from a scene to another with the loading time, and it needs to be fixed.Another problem was with the camera angle. It was good, but i can't exactly see what is in front of me,so i end up missing the grind sometimes.I also fall sometimes when i can't see a ledge in front of me. Also,it takes a long time to move from a challenge to another with the skateboard instead of teleporting. The reason is i want to explore more as I reach the place, but it takes very long to reach the place i want to reach. Other than that,I enjoy the story so far and the challenges and bonuses, and also the ramps and parks have been beautifully designed.I would give Skate 2 a 8.4/10 |

Really love the game, however it is frustratingly hard sometimes.
But what really infuriates me is the count down you get on some missions when you bail. After bailing, you need to wait for the 'retry' option, then after selecting it, the 3 second count down starts. In total it's only 5 or 6 seconds but when bailing a lot, it's horrible and you spend more time waiting then skating. The 3 second countdown also takes all the fun out of multiplayer hall-of-meat. An xbox360 patch or upgrade to minimize the countdown would be great. I still miss splitscreen jam sessions. 'S.K.A.T.E.' is still a completely useless addition, with more then 1 opponent it's even insulting how bad and boring it is. |

Hello and good day,
I am deeply dissapointed by skate 2. I for one have actively waited for this sequal for a year and played it to bits once i got it. It's gone down in realism (the foggy "i just woke up" kinda graphics in skate 1 were better) The frame-rate is all screwed in part 2. Glitchy performance. (on xBox this is better i believe? more fluently) New tricks ok... but yeah.. if the environment sucks.. i'm defenately gonna download the skate 1 map.. Skate 2 bores allot sooner and that 'glitchy' framerate (or whatcha might call it) makes it irritating to play long.. New sounds of materials are ok.. but the tricking possibilities in skate 2 make the skating way to unrealistic.. Ok, it's still possible to do little lines and true to life skating but mainly they want you to do realistic stuff on a huge scale. Downhill is fun... but so gimmicky X-games park WAS fun, new one is just silly.. damn.. why not completely design a new world.. without these stupid 'self'-tributes to skate 1.. Sorry team blackbox but me and a group of S.K.A.T.E. fans were eagerly awaiting the epic sequal.. But as time passed with part 2 in our possesion we could not fool each other no more... we spoke truth and told one another that this was not what we waited for all that time... ALL THAT TIME and now a product such as this.... deeply dissapointed.. what do you do all day.. u guys do get payed right? I was just now playing again, ...until it bothered me so much that i wanted to go post my irritations online... at least you making people move from their couch to the computer ... please make the game as how we saw the early previews of SKATE 1... cus' that looked more realistic than part 1. we want smoothness! not glithcy-glotchy frame-madness. S.K.A.T.E. 2 sucks... sorry... still a big fan of the SKATE revolution you made possible for part 1. Opinion. My times : S.K.A.T.E. 2 - Finished in some nights and couple 'o days. (Beating all challenges, getting all medals online plus having free skated til it's no fun anymore) S.K.A.T.E. 1 - Longer than that... before part2 i never put down skate while soul- riding .. until i just wanted new evironments.. this i thought, skate 2 would take care of.. unfortunately not. bla . bla . bla Spid3 right you are....Lemme help as well! we can make part 3 the BEST! I think it is a lot better than skate 1. I completed the career within 2-3 days, got 950 gamerscore off it in about 4 days.
I dont like how you choose how your person looks, while playing online they all look the same. You should be able to use the xbox vision camera to make it look like you .

Completed the career in 2-3 days
Have Every achievement (nearly) Just need to get legend which is taking ages. Need 1691 xp Which is gonna take at least another 90+ games of Spot Battle.Hall of meat sucks, Sick if noobies using the no-comply glitch. I already have gold medal so i dont play it. Finished every freeskate activity in about 10 hours. I also hate the create a skater thing. They all look the same. The skater seems to go so slow compared to videos on Skate-Reel I also love the fact you can create Custom_Graphics for your Skateboard, T-shirt and hat. I've seen some pretty awesome Grapics while playing online. But yeah, its one of the best games i've bought for the xbox 360. ![]() ![]() 10/10 (y)Thanx J0RD4NV

imo this is the best game ever played...
I like the complex ways of doing the new grabs... eg nose grab + X + A to airwalk... Judos! One thing I am very dissapointed with though - is dropping in. when I play online and I get spawned on the top of a ramp, why cant I just put my board over the coping and drop in? like when im doing a tailslide on a quarter pipe and pop 2 foot back in, why cant there be a button for me just to drop back in? I think there should be a button made so on quarter pipes (or any transitioned ramps with coping) you should be able to ride back in without popping a ollie whilst still keeping your speed and momentum, maybe pressing the right stick in? it seems to be fine with grinds but not tails/nose. also you cant choose when you want to go back into the ramp - meaning I will have to ollie out of my grind and possibly lose speed. I think new tricks you should add are more stalls/mini ramp tricks (considering you have implemented handgrabs.) rock fakies, rock and rolls, reverts from nosestalls/tailstalls, although there are already most tricks in place, it would be nice to be able to do them in more realistic ways... its one part of skate I feel has been left out and can be very creative, I dont always want to be doing vert tricks, or maybe one nice mini ramp trick in a line? just as worth checking out this: YouTube - Mini Ramp Nerd - skateboarding clip |
