I am aware that Advertisements in EA games are not a new idea. Battlefield 2142 had dynamic adverts and Burnout Revenge had static ones. This actual practice hasn't really bothered me as much as some. Until now. The Simpsons adverts in Skate are waaaaaaaay beyond a joke. They're everywhere and they're not even subtle like adverts from the previous games I've mentioned, they're yellow eyesores in the game and actively detract from the atmosphere presented therein. This is basically part whinge and part hope that EA look at these forums and take whatever suggestions the community makes and has a good think about them. So here it is in short form: Please tone down the Simpsons ads in Skate. Pretty please?

Yeah I have to agree completely. I have about 100 hours in 2142 and the ads have never really bothered me as they were always kept sparse and the colours were appropriate to the setting, but these Simpsons ones in Skate just make a mockery of the coherent city that the developers have striven to make.
I mean just look at the state of this (photo credit Bojangle): ![]() There's no thought at all involved with those. Did some marketing genius with the keys to the ad engine just throw these up in his lunchtime or was it really a considered decision to line the streets with bright yellow and logo? If you must put this sort of thing up, at least use the same marketing material that would actually appear in the media. We paid for this game, treat that with respect. If you want to pay for a billboard then do what you want with it, but I doubt anything like this would ever get through the 'real' EA press office. |

Thanks for the feedback, guys, I'll pass it on for you.
I'm all for advertising in games, but I have to agree with you (that screenshot is an eyesore)! I admire the Heroes advertisements in BF2142 (for example). They do not detract from the gameplay at all; they clearly made an effort to realate to (and "fit in" with) the game and the advertising was reminiscent of what you'd see in real life. I mean, Bart Simspon is famous for skating!! How hard could it have been to put two and two together and use him in the ads? The Simpsons is renowned for it's wit and pardody - it's a shame they didn't include any in the ads, . Also, it would have been nice if there were several different advertisements (again, like the Heroes ads in BF2142).Phenom |
