Default game doesn't run

I have the original sims (complete collection) and have attempted to install it on my new laptop that runs on vista. It installs and lets me play straight after installation but then fails to run on opening. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing and the problem this time was that it wouldn't get past opening the installation packs on the neighbourhood screen.

Any ideas what i can do?

Have you tried running the game in compatibility mode?

Right click on the game icon on your desktop, select 'Properties' and choose the 'Compatibility' tab. You could try running the game in compatibility mode for XP SP2 then
