Problem with story continuation

I've played this once as the male character and also once as my own designed character is story mode on Sims Castaway Stories.

The first one, I created a character myself and as I moved out of the lagoon, they all come round to my house and the chiefs wife gives me the sail I need. So I go and attach it to the raft and although the raft is there with its sail on, the goal is also still there. I can't click on the raft or do anything to the raft and so I'm stuck at this part of the story.

The second one with my male character, I got as a far as just having met all the second set of villagers and afterwards, one of the villagers told me the chief wanted to talk to me. So I go over and chat to him, the bubble pops up and says blah blah "I thank you for my daughters life" etc. Now this isn't supposed to happen, but the villager approaches me and says the chief wants to talk to me again and now it's stuck again but at a different story part. I've tried talking to the chief over and over again but the goal never changes from talk to the chief.

It's driving me nuts and I can't access the contact us on the support part. I'm already logged in, it asks me to log in again and then every time I log in again it comes up with an error 4 page.

I really want them to create a patch to get rid of this error cause quite a few people I've spoken to on boards have had the same problem of the story continuation just stopping at a certain point even though they've completed the task.

So if anyone knows of a patch (I can't find one for castaway stories) or of any way to solve this? Or perhaps how I can go back to a previously saved file rather than having to restart the whole story? I'd greatly appreciate it.
